J. Harris member of the federal trade commission, and of the best known Georgians in Washing- ton have renewed their request for him to run for the United States Senate against Senator Thomas W. Hardwick. Mr. Harris has been in Geor- gja_several days and has been approached byjmany strong sup porters of President Wilson who are anxious for him to he a candidate. He came home to castg his ballot for the president at Cedartown, Polk county, and incidentally he was instrumental with other democrats in carry ing the county for Wilson for the second time in 50 years that it has gone democratic in a presidential election. Mr. Harris also wrote a thousand letters to f> iends in Georgia, prior to the election, urging them to vote and help turn out a large demo- crative vote. Nov. 18-Advan tages of the Chattahoochee river as the water course on which the United States goverment’s *20,000,OOOjnitrate plant should be located will shortly be pre sented to President Wilson who has been empowered to deter mine the location. In potential water power, un developed the Chattahoochee river ranks third among the rivers of the United States and all of this power ran probably be harnessed at less expense than the power of any water course. The river is navigable as far north as Columbus. Con struction of dams at shoals al ready surveyed by government engineers will make it navig able as far north as Fulton county. The location of the nitrate plant, or plants on the Chattahoochee would place the surplus nitrate used for ferti lizer in the heart of agricultural section. These and other reasons why the plant should be located on the Chattahoochee will be pre sented to the president by a delegation representing the in terests of the entire state, with out regard to any particular waterpower site or community which would benefit from the plant.
