Miller announces candidacy
for Georgia House District 124
Melanie Miller has offi
cially announced her candi
dacy for the Georgia House
of Representatives District
124 seat in the upcoming
2026 midterm election.
With a platform rooted
in transparency, account
ability, and integrity, Miller
enters the race with a
commitment to restoring
trust in public service and
ensuring that the voices of
the community are truly
heard under the Gold
Dome.
“As a lifelong resident of
Georgia and a firm believer
in responsible governance,
I’m stepping forward to be
the change that so many in
our community are calling
for,” Miller said. “District
124 deserves a representa
tive who listens, leads with
integrity, and delivers real
results.”
Miller brings a strong
background in public
service, community
engagement, and strategic
Melanie Miller
leadership. Her campaign
will focus on key priorities
including ethical gover
nance, education reform,
economic opportunity,
and access to quality
healthcare.
Her decision to run
stems from a growing
concern among constit
uents that their needs
and concerns are being
overlooked in the political
process. Miller pledges
to bring a renewed sense
of openness and integrity
to the role, advocating
for transparent policy-
making and accountable
leadership.
“My campaign isn’t
about partisanship — it’s
about people,” Miller said.
“It’s about ensuring every
resident of District 124
knows that they have a
voice in the State Capitol
and a representative
who works for them, not
special interests.”
Miller’s campaign will
officially launch with a
community town hall this
summer, where residents
are invited to share their
concerns, ask questions,
and join the conversa
tion about the future of
District 124.

Kemp traveling to Canada for trade conference
Dave Williams
Capitol Beat News Service
Gov. Brian Kemp will lead a
three-day trade mission to Canada next
week amid an atmosphere of uncer
tainty prompted by a series of tariffs
President Donald Trump has imposed
on the United States’ northern neighbor.
Kemp, joined by Georgia First Lady
Marty Kemp and state Economic Devel
opment Commissioner Pat Wilson, will
attend the 2025 Southeast U.S.-Cana-
dian Provinces Alliance conference in
Saint John, New Brunswick, which will
run from June 8-10.
The alliance was established in 2007
to enhance trade and investment,
promote cross-border business collab
oration between the two countries, and
create new trade opportunities through
connections between the member
Southeastern states and Canadian
provinces.
A meeting in the Oval Office last
month between Trump and new Cana
dian Prime Minister Mark Carney
became testy when the president talked
about his desire for the U.S. to acquire
Canada as the 51st state.
