Sew Much Fun helps out ‘Honk!’ at the Plaza The ladies of the Sew Much Fun Club (SMFC) of Del Webb met May 30 to begin creating a large quilt top for the local Broadway Intensive production of “HONK!,” opening early next month at The Plaza Arts Center in Eatonton. Founded in 2011, The Sew Much Fun Club has met every Friday since, with founders Julie Elder and Susan Guss remaining as integral participants. Club members also occasionally embark on field trips to various quilt and fabric shops across the state of Georgia. During meetings, SMFC members typically make toddler activity mats, crayon bags, and quilts with pockets, which are then donated to the Veteran’s Home in Milledgeville, club member Libba Holmes explained. Lora Garcia-Carreras, the founder and owner of The Arts Barn, which is presenting “HONK!” with The Plaza, expressed gratitude and enthusiasm for the collaboration with the SMFC members. “At The Arts Barn, building community through the arts is at the heart of what we do,” Garcia-Car reras said. “This is such a beautiful moment, when the sewing community comes together to support the theatre community. "We are incredibly grateful to the Sew Much Fun Club for their generosity, and were excited for theatregoers to witness different forms of art coming together on stage in such a meaningful way,” she added. The quilt top will serve as the backdrop for “HONK!,” which tells the story of “The Ugly Duckling” in musical form, making it fun and entertaining for all ages. The cast will present the show in two weeks under the direction of Broadway veteran Henry Scott. “HONK!” will debut at 7 p.m., July 3 on The Plaza stage, with additional shows scheduled for 7 p.m. July 5, at 3 p.m. July 6, at 7 p.m. July 10-12, and at 3 p.m. on July 13.
