The new USDA Service Center at 1201 Mary Magnan Blvd., Madison, became fully operational Aug. 25, where customers can receive FSA and NRCS assistance Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., or by phone at 706-485-2341. The NRCS office in Putnam County will remain at its current location (130 Sparta Hwy., Eatonton) and producers are encouraged to call before arrival at 706-2485-2341 as NRCS staff may be in the field. FSA customers who need farm loan assistance can contact the Farm Loan Team at (478) 827-0016 to schedule an appointment. Additionally, farmers and landowners can access many USDA programs and services throughfarmers.govincluding viewing and signing documents, submit ting applications and forms, accessing conservation plans, or tracking program payments and contracts. Customers with afarmers.govaccount can log in anytime to manage their USDA business online.Those without afarmers. govaccount are encouraged to create one using their USDA customer record. — Contributed Georgia ports' economic impact on the rise Dave Williams Capitol Beat News Service Trade through Georgia’s ports supported 650,965 full- and part-time jobs across the state during the last fiscal year, the Georgia Ports Authority reported Tuesday. The number of state wide jobs grew by 41,770 in fiscal 2024, up 7% from the previous fiscal year. Georgia ports now help sustain 12% of total state employment. “Georgia has been recognized as the No.-l state for business for over a decade in part because we’re also the best state for reliable infrastruc ture,” Gov. Brian Kemp said. According to the Selig Center study, Georgia’s two deep-water ports accounted for $174 billion in sales in the last fiscal year, up 2% from fiscal 2023, and contributed $77 billion to the state’s Gross Domestic Product, a 7% increase over the previous fiscal year. The ports also generated $43 billion in income, up 7.5% compared to fiscal 2023.
