Each of six downtown destinations on the tour featured two to eight actors presenting 10- to 15-minute spooky skits based upon the location, including this one at The Eatonton Messenger's office on North Jefferson Avenue. It featured 16-year-old Avry Shorter (left) as a newsboy hawking papers outside the front door, and Kyle Krug as a newspaper editor regaling visitors with tales of crime, murder, and mayhem from a fictional, sordid past for Putnam County. The group wore pink from head to toe and had a ceremony to honor custodian and breast cancer survivor, Annie Parks and remember Linda Sadler, an employee of the Finance department who lost her life to breast cancer several years ago and all others that have been diagnosed 10 YEARS AGO, NOV. 5, 2015 The counting of votes at the end of voting Tuesday for city elections produced no definite winner in the tightly contested mayor's race. The count from the City Hut, the city's polling place, after voting closed Tuesday night, showed the challenger, Walter Rocker Jr., with 746 votes and incumbent Mayor John Reid with 727. But in a complication that prevented a confirmed winner that night, 19 votes separated the two candidates, while it remained to be determined if 31 provisional ballots would count in the race. 25 YEARS AGO, NOV. 9, 2000 The Putnam County Board of Commissioners endorsed Putnam General Hospital's application for designation as a "Critical Access Hospital" at their monthly meeting last Friday. Qualifying hospitals must be under 100 beds, reduce licensed bed size to 25 (including swing beds), maintain an average length of stay of less than 96 hours and have a transfer agreement with at least one secondary or tertiary hospital, according to a letter from PGH Administrator Darrell M. Oglesby. 50 YEARS AGO, NOV. 6, 1975 Putnam County streaked by the Greene County Tigers in an important sub-region football contest Friday night by a score of 26-6. The Eagles extended their winning string to four as they defeated the Greene County team. Putnam remains undefeated in region play after three region games. 75 YEARS AGO, NOV. 9, 1950 Searching for artifacts and shards with the hope that clues might be uncovered which will bring light to the mystery of the dawn people who built the Rock Eagle mound effigy, Dr. A.R. Kelly head of the Archeological Department of the University, and formerly with the Smithsonian Institute, brought a party from Athens, to explore the area in the northern part of Putnam County in the vicinity of the lake. 100 YEARS AGO, NOV. 6, 1925 Kiwanian J.O. Wall left Monday to attend the state Kiwanis convention in Albany, Georgia. Mr. Wall attended the national Kiwanis convention at St. Paul, Minnesota, last summer, and he is recognized as one of Georgia's livest and most enthusiastic Kiwanians. Eatonton is fortunate in having such a fine representative and wide-awake delegate at the state convention.
