Born on November 9, 1953, at Georgia Baptist Hospital in Atlanta, Julia grew up in Decatur and attended Westminster Schools in Atlanta. She went on to earn her B.S., MBA, and MBIS degrees from Georgia State University in the mid-1980s, proudly exemplifying a lifelong love of learning. A gifted mind and a member of Mensa, Julia built a decorated career in technology, holding key roles with IBM, Contel, Honeywell, and later the Internal Revenue Service. Her professional accomplish ments were matched only by her generosity and sense of purpose. In 2007, Julia moved to Eatonton to help care for her father. Julia was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. James Luther Clem ents Jr. and Margaret Clements, and her two brothers, Arthur Lewis Clements and Ashley Howard Clements. She is survived by her two beloved dogs, Paris, a French Bulldog, and Jonah her faithful Chihuahua companion. As a lifelong lover of animals, Julia requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Lake Oconee Humane Society in her memory. A graveside memorial service will be held at a later date. GMC partners with first responders for emergency preparedness exercise Bailey Ballard bailey@msgrnews.com Georgia Military College (GMC) and GMC Preparatory School, in collaboration with Milledgeville and Baldwin County first responders, conducted the first large-scale Emergency Preparedness Exercise on Nov. 1 on GMC’s Main Campus in Milledgeville. There were three exer cises to accommodate elementary, middle, and high school with over 100 cadets volunteering to act as students, injured, deceased, and more. According to law enforce ment on the premises, the scenario regarded an active shooter being on campus with students both in the hall and class- rooms. Acting students and teachers played roles to lock and hide in the classroom, find shelter out of the hallways or escape, or how to get help for others injured. These drills simulate high-stress scenarios, helping fire- fighters, law enforcement, and EMS personnel develop muscle memory, situational awareness, and informed deci sion-making in chaotic environments, thereby converting instinc tive fear into informed action,” Baldwin Fire Rescue posted on Facebook. Participating agencies included the Georgia Military College Police Department, Milled geville Police Depart ment, Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office, Baldwin County Fire Rescue, Baldwin County Emer gency Management Agency, Atrium Health Navicent Emergency Medical Services, Atrium Health Navicent Baldwin Hospital, and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. “The purpose of these exercises was to be prepared.
