Wedding
In a beautiful home wedding
solemnized at four-tHrty at the
home of her parents. Rev. and
Mrs. Harry L. Burney, Sr., Miss
Gloria Burney became the bride
of Mr. James Harold Arrington
of Birmingham, Alabama.
The double ring ceremony was
performed by the bride’s father
and her uncle. Rev. S. S. Robin
son, Jr., of Jacksonville, Florida.
Mrs. L. P. Grissom, Jr., and
Miss Jacquelyn Hunter presented
the Nuptial Music. Miss Hunter
sang the Wedding Hymn, “0 Per
fect Love”, and “The Lord’s
Prayer”.
The bride, given in marriage
by her brother, Mr. Harry L.
Burney of Crescent City, Fla.,
was radiant in a creation of im
ported chantilly lace over blush
pink silk with a fitted bodice and
short sleeves. Her finger tip veil
of blush pink illusion was held
in place by a crown of pearls. She
carried a white Bible, corsage of
white orchids, and Stephanotis,
a gift from her father.
Mrs. Clementine Burney Wright,
sister of the bride, was Matron of
Honor. She was attired in pink
imported silk organza.
Mr. Arrington chose as his best
man Mr. Edward Ross of Fair
field, Alabama. Mr. Harry L.
Burney, 111, nephew of the bride,
served as usher.
The bride’s mother, Mrs. Harry
L. Burney, was attired in a blue
lace dress with the matching ac
cessories and a white corsage.
Following the ceremony, the
bride’s parents gave a reception.
Hostesses at the reception were
Misses Yvonne Ramey, Barbara
Hancock, Gloria Miller, Patric
anne Hurd, Margaret Robinson
and Katie Robinson of Sanford,
Florida, and Mrs. Alberta Robin
son.
Junior hostesses were Barbara
Jan Givens, cousin of hte bride
from Sanford, Florida and Sandra
Burney, niece of the bride, from
Crescent City, Florida.
Mrs. Alfreda Bradley Evans in
troduced the receiving line. Mrs.
Peggy Calhoun Cooper kept the
guest book.
Many pre-nuptial affairs were
given before the wedding.

sonville, Fla., Mr. and Mrs. Harry
L. Burney 11, Harry L. 111, and

After a short wedding trip, the
couple are residing at 2166 Vesta
St., N.W., #l.

The latest cablegrams from
fashion houses in Paris read as
follows: “Paris designers have
scissor holiday . . . Suits and
coats take on new appearance as

Another news brief from the
House of Dior relates that Yves
St. Laurent, the 24 year old mas
ter of the House will be out
fitted in khaki green, designed
and made to order expressly for
him by the Army. The young
fashion genius is expected to be
gin his 27 month tour of duty
with the Army in September.

Count down, cats! Blast off time for another school year is
almost here and soon we’ll be orbiting through classes and such.
Some scintillating sage has written: “The bigger the summer vaca
tion, the harder the fall!” Next week we hope to have a full tip
sheet on who’s going where to
what school. So all you ‘heavies’
who are leaving ‘LA’ (Lovely
Atlanta) for distant ‘brain mills’,

Coming and Going
Vivacious Miss Lillie Kate
Walker returned recently from a
fun-filled three weeks in New
York City. While in the Big City,
Lillie Kate was the guest of her
cousin — none other than “the”
Rory Calhoun. C-r-a-a-z-y!!
“ ’Swunnerful”, said Miss La
verne Harper, daughter of Dr.
and Mrs. W. N. Harper, referring
to her recent vacation in Florida.
The Harpers motored first to Al
bany where they visited Mrs.
Harper’s parents. Then on to Day
tona Beach where they stayed
on the Bethune-Cookman campus.
Travelling with Laverne was her
cousin, cute Roberta Wright.
Another ‘swellebrity’ returning
to our midst is Ford ‘Edsel’
Greene. Ford’s first travel
hop was Detroit to pick up his
mother who has been studying at
Wayne State this summer. From
there to Springfield, Ohio, where
they enoyed an exciting two weeks
with the J. F. Greenes.

Mr. and Mrs. Namon H. Welch
of Atlanta, announce the engage
ment of their daughter, Vivian
Anne, to Mr. Albert Paul Brinson,
son of Mrs. Gertrude Brinson of
Atlanta, and Mr. Marvin Brinson,
Sr., of Chicago, Illinois.
Miss Welch is a graduate of
Booker T. Washington High School
and Spelman College with a major
in English and a minor in Ele
mentary Education. The Bride-
Elect was an active member of
several organizations while at
Spelman, including the English
Club and the yearbook staff. She
is a member of West Hunter Bap
tist Church.
Mr. Brinson received his high
school education at David T.
Howard High, and received his
higher education at Morehouse
College where he majored in Eng
lish and minored in Secondary
Education. He is past editor of
the Morehouse Literary Magazine,
The Pegasus, and an original
member of the Appeal For Human
Rights, the Student Movement
Committee. The Groom-to-be is a
member of Ebenezer Baptist
Church.
The wedding will be an event
of late November.

lucky town graced with the pres
ence of petite Miss Geraldine
Connally who is home again after
a four week stay in that town.
Returning home with ‘Gerrie’
were her cousins Vincent, Venita
and Sylvia Suitt. Also Norman
Smith whom many of you may
remember from last summer.
From Indianapolis come Hallie
Ann and William C. Beachem to
visit “swellatives” Mr. and Mrs.
F. V. Brooks. The young Beach
ems will be staying until Septem
ber 3 at the decorative Brooks’
residence on Baker Ridge Drive.
They are a welcome addition to
our “teen troup”.
Carroll Strickland, nephew of
Mrs. Asa Yancey, is visiting our
city and staying with the Yanceys
on West Lake Drive. Carroll at
tends Wayne State in Detroit. He
is suave and swoony, girls!
Sweet and stunning Miss Bemell
Greenhouse left Wednesday for
New York City. She will stay with
her sister who has an exciting
two weeks planned for Bernell’s
visit.
Two of Atlanta’s most popular
teens. Misses Beverly and Joanne
Whatley, left August 20, for Wash
ington, D. C., where their parents
will attend an Alpha meeting.
‘Raindrop’ (Grady) Roberts
popped by to say “ta-ta” before
leaving for Hampton, Virginia, to
visit those fine Gloster sisters,
Alice and Evelyn.

transferred his “stalling” grounds
to the West Side. Thursday the
Ashmores moved into their beau
tiful new home on Valley Heart
Drive. Sorry, East Siders! Your
loss is our “swain”!
When shopping for your fall ’6O
threads in selected stores, dig the
tunics or overblouses which are
all the rage. Jumpers are “way
out”, too, and the culotte styles
are real yummy. And don’t miss
the “shorty jumper” worn over —
of all things — knickers!
And, if you can steer with a
‘sew-stick’, you won’t be able to
pass up the new synthetic ‘fur’
fabrics. They’re washable, and
look like the real thing.

Miami, Florida, where the family
had moved during the summer.
