In 1952, for the first time in the history of Atlanta a coterie
of lovely young ladies was formally introduced to Atlanta
society by Eta Sigma Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority.
This was Atlanta’s first Debutante Ball.
Seventeen charming young ladies, arrayed in white formal
evening attire, accompanied by formally dressed escorts com
posed the first group. The Debs werlchose„ o 'X Ss ° o ?

Through the years the Debutante Ball remains the high
point on the calander of the young social contingents of Atlanta.
In keeping with social conformity, the classification of the Debs
s changed from college level to senior high school.
A feature of the ball a minuet presented by Sub-Debs. These
girls are chosen from the eleventh grade in the various high
schools.
Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority is proud to present this cul
tural event. In addition to the social aspect, large numbers of
scholarships have been given to worthy college students.
