Amid much pagentry and splendor ninety-one young ladies
made their debut into society at the Municipal Auditorium.
The thirteenth Annual Debutantes Ball sponsored by the Eta
Sigma Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho sorority by far surpassed
previous brilliant affairs staged by the group.
Mistress of ceremonies Mrs. Carrie Lacey assisted by Mr. E.M.
Pharr wove a magic spell as each debuUnte escorted by her
father emerged from a giant gold wreath flanked on both sides
by minature silvertrees, which twinkled with lights to the foot
of the staris where her escort awaited. Each deb was presented a
beautiful bouquet of flowers by a sub-deo.
The sub-debs of 1963 executed a magnificent "Waltz of The
Bells" in homage to the queen. Radiantßeba Palmer was crown
ed Miss Debutante of 1964 by Mrs. Winifred Jones, Crown bearer
was Katherine Steele 1963 queen. The queen’s court consisted
of Laura English and Winifred Harrington.
Debutantes and their escorts created a picture of magnificent
beauty as they performed a perfectly co-ordinated Cotillion.
Greetings were brought by Basilius Annette Hampton.
and Mr. Edward Wheeler rendered enthralling solos. Bill Odum’s
Combo provided music for the occasion.
Mesdames Winifred Jones and Rubye Moore, were co-chairmen
assisted by Mesdames Gleaner Atkins, Ann Bailey, Birdie Gay,
Evelyn Hood, Carrie Lacey, Beulah Pitts, Willie Price, Emma
Rogers, Ruby e Rowe, Nell Thomas, Mable Warner and Miss
Effie Patrick. Choreographers were Mesdames Rochelle White
and Josephine Davis.
