Georgia Speaker of the House Roy V. Harris founded the Augusta Courier in 1946 and served as its editor. He aligned the paper with Augusta’s populist Cracker Party and used it to support segregation and the disenfranchisement of Georgia’s Black citizens. The white supremacist newspaper ceased publication in 1974.
