SrXoue of tlio l’;tris papers mentions the
drcumitanec of tbo “ fusion," or, to apeak
more intelligibly, the reconciliation of the
French branched of that estimable family- -the
Bourbons. A London letter writer has, how
ever, succeeded in obtaining an account which
bears authentically on its face. On Wednesday
Kith, an ex -major of cavalry met the Dnko de
Levis, by appointment at Vienna, to decide on
tie form’in which the interview between the
’Princes should take place. On Thursday, 17th,
the Count do Chambord sent to Vienncr-
XeuMndt, one of his carriages with the Count
do Monti, to meet tho Duke dc Nemours.—
When the carriage arrived at the, chateau, the
Duke do Lcvcs stood at the door, to receive
tho Duke dc Nemours and to conduct him to
tho Count do Chambord. In tlm chief saloon
tho principal members of the household were
drawn up, and so soon as the Duke de Ne
mours was heard advancing towards it, which
was half open, the Count advanced fifteen
paces, neither more or less, and just accom
plished the fifteenth when the Duke entered.
The agreeable Nemours took tho band of the
Duke, and bent as if to kiss it, but did not.—
The Count took him l»y both hands and in a
very friendly but dignified toue, said :
*• My cousin, l am happy to see you I” St.
Duke de Nemours replied':
«It is I, my cousin, who am delighted to be
nblo to do now what I have so ardently desired
to do long since. I declare to you in my own
name, and in the name of iny brothers, that
we recognise only one Royalty in France, and
that the one on which wc nope to sec soon seat
ed Tune noire nwhan—the eldest of our house.'’
These words the Duko pronounced with a
firm voice in the presence of the whole com
pany. He was then shown into the Count’s
private apartment, where he remaiued three
quarters of an hour, and in that brief space of
time is supposed to have settled the destinies of
France. On emergtng.froiu the conference the
Count and the Duke seemed completely agreed.
On taking his leave, the Duke (the account
says) seemed flattered, indeed overjoyed, at d"rk vs. Jsns Kennedy. Property pointed out by
the reception he met with. He is reported to
have remarked:
“ This day is tho brightest of my life. I re
member it is the anniversary of the day I was
named Colonel by his Majesty Charles X.”
Perceiving the Baron—the Duke said:
“ I am delighted to l»e able to congratulate
you, M. le Harnn on your constancy and fideli
ty to tlio Royal Family."
’ The Baron bowed. The I)uko made his com
pliments to the Countess of Chambord, and ask
ed permission for his wife and children to visit,
upon which the Count remarked :
“ Wc shall arrange all about that visit at
Vienna, and we shall decide, upon the time that
you are to return to pass with us at Frobstadt.”
The Duke was then pleased to observe :
“ 1 havo just laid a bridge over the abyss
that separated us—a bridge that will lead us
all back to France!”
The “ fusion ” was then considered as ac
complished, aiid couriers were scut of!' in all
directions to announce the fact!
There is a person, by name Louis Bona
parte, somewhat interested in this affair of the
“fusion.” And we learn from a quarter likely
to be well informed that the Emperor, "s'etl
beau coup amuse au reeet de re qui s'est jtossre
enlre A/, de Chambord el III. de Nemours"—in
other words, he thought it funny.
Hr.itn Driksbach ash ins Pet Tiger—A
Loving Embrace.—At the Broadway mena
gerie, lost evening, a scene occurred which was
not announced in the programme of perform
ances, and therefore, it somewhat took the au
dience by surprise. At 8 o’clock, as usual,
Mr. Dricsbaeli entered the den, in which were
n lion, three leopards, a lioness and a Brazilian
tiger, for the purpose of exhibition. Scarcely,
however, had he commenced the performance,
when, from some unforseen cause, the tiger
sprang at Mr. Driesbach. The unexpected at
tack threw him from his feet, and the beast
iustantly fastened his teeth on the breast of Mr.
Driesbach and his daws on other parts of his
body. The lioness, observing the assault,
took the part of her master, and pitched into
the tiger; but in so doing she unluckily miss
ed the tiger nud struck Mr. Driesbach a pow
erful blow with her paws, which only tended
to increase the difficulty already pending.—
Mr. Moftatt, the principal attendant during the
exhibition, kept the other animals back from
entering into the melee, as they seemingly felt
inclined to do; at tl)C same iustaut he. opened
the door, and by main force dragged Mr. Dries
bach from the den, the tiger still maintaining
her attachment to her master, but when oppo
site her own cage, she loosed her hold sprang
into her own apartment, licking her chops, ami
Touched down in one comer, evidently en
joying the good taste of her fond master.’ Mr.
Driesbach was conveyed to a private room,
ind a physician sent for to dress the injuries,
vhich on examination, proved only to be flesh
rounds.
Tho audience at first thought the attack of
.he tiger only fun, and considered the rough
uid tumble actions of the trio remarkably nat
ural ; in a few seconds, though, they found the
.liing was no joke, and an alarm prevailed least
Jte assault should prove fatal.
It is a curious fact that this tiger is consid-
■red by Mr. Driesbach one of his pet animals
,'or mildness and docility; hut not having been
exhibited for two or three months past, and
iast evening, introduced suddenly before a
•rowded audience, and the dazzling gas light,
he beast no doubt liecmne confused and exci-
:cd, which led to the attack. Such an affair
may not occur again for years.
Air. Driesbach will oo able in a few days to
-•piu'w his visits “in the lion's den."
