Hon. Clark Howell cf Fulton
who has served two terms with
credit to himself a;.d his constitu
ents, is mentioned as the next
speaker of the House.
The Brazilian people are kicking
up the right kind of a dust; they
are organizing a republican govern
ment, and selecting their officers,
To avoid this trouble, they could
move to the United States, the
heme of the free.
Bill Arp on the negro, in the con
stitution of last Sunday was as sen
sible as it was witty. He says if
the negro wouid be “let alone’ he
would be colonized,;and would con
tinue as he has always been, the
happiest race on the globe
Our Douglas county contempo-
rat y, which is level headed and o-
pen-handed oriaU questions, has
at the head of its editorial column
the forlowing ticket for 18q2; for
President-David B; Hill of New
York; for vice President, James E.
Campbell of Ohio.
Hon. A. S. Clay, speaker of the
House of Representatives, has
withdrawn from public life; but
such servants as he are too few to
turn loose; we predict that when
Cobb’s round comes to furnish a
Senator, Mr* Clay will be called up
on to serves.
It was rumored a few weeks ago
that our tax collector was robbed
of a good round sum of money.
That was at, mistake. Ail the rob
bers know that as fast as our col
lector and treasurer receive roon-
ey, they turn it over to our hun
gry creditors, and there is no use
of trying to rob them.
We will announce to the pub
lic that the Fayetteville High
School will begin Jan. 6th, 1890.
In this school will be taught an
English. Business and Clasical
cours.’
Trition will be one dollar per
month lor all grades.
Business department five dot
lars per month. . There will be no
deduction made for the public
school fund.
All tuition will be considered
cash.'
Those desiring to patronize the
school w ill apply to L. B. Griggs,
Tres. of Board of Trustees, and oh
tain a ticket of admission into the
school.
It thus placing the tuition at
one dollar per month, we ex ;ect
a large patronage from Fayette
and surrounding counties. There
can be no excuse for “high tui
lion,” as has.been heretofore.
Then away with that stinginess
that begrudges a dollar, and send
your children to school, for this
certainly puts the tuition in reach
of all.
We guarantee that your children
can gain an education here equal
to that of any school in the state.
Our motto is “Thorough,” our
discipline mild but firm.
We ask your patronage,
think with the low tuition we
get it. Respectfully,
D. R. Keith,
Principal.

The hope for future prosperity
and honest government lies in the
Farmers Alliance and the demo
cratic party. The Alliance is mak
ing all reasonable and possible ef
forts to revolutionize the system
of agriculture and make the farms
self-sustaining, arjd to bring about
more home manufactories and in-
dusttics. While the noble and
honest old political party is sus*
tabling a tariff reform, a distribu
