This calf almost dwi- ? bled Its food bin in value., I have; the record kept and It JdteVs a profit, et we see people yfko , say this can not. be done. - They dopT know except by guess. Wbnljfl it not be, better for a boy to grow a calf a year than spend Mb idle time with some bad boy on the swamp or woods. Encour age him to do better anyway. If you are able it would be no bad thing to buy the boys a pure bred and start him with cattle. Some of the richest men of the country are growers of cattle. Redwin Brothers make them weigh more than 1,000 pounds at a year old. You would be proud of your boy if he did that. Three more days and 1918 will be history. We can all unite and say we have a better world than we had twelve months ago. Our government has accomplished more than any pre vious year. Our country has produc ed more. Our nation is richer than ever in its history. These records have been made by reason of the ef fort and work of the people. The world has been, made fetter an d more prosperous by reason of our being a part of it. We should apply these rules to the records we have made as individuals. Is your life better than one year ago? Have you made your community and the world better by reason of your living in it? Did you live for self, work for self and let others support the churches, Young Men’s Christian Association, etc. Christ gave his life for you and oth ers. The world is happier and bet ter because he lived nearly two thou sand years ago. Was your record and life for 1918 one that will remind and rejoice others that you have lived? Then it was a success. In a recent issue of The News we stated a Georgia pig club boy had won the champion prize at the Inter national Live Stock Show at Chicago. We were mistaken about this. He was not a pig club boy, but was Mr. R. P. Cotter of Barnesville. He won Senior Boar, Aged Boar and Grand Champion Boar at this show. Several of the club boys of this county will remem ber seeing this hog last summer while at the Farmers’ Institute. One of his pigs Was exhibited at the county con test here in November. We have heard men say who ought to know that Georgia was one of the best hog-rai.8 ing Btates in the Union. Mr. Cotti grew this hog himself. It was raisei in a woods and Bermuda pasture. If every father would provide his boy with a Bermuda pasture and encour age him to grow the best pig in the county things would look different in a few years.
