It was a success and the same county bought another and another, and the first machine is still running, and it is six years old and digs sev eral thousand rods every fall, winter aiid spring; the price making this machine prohibitive for an individual, but cheap for.a whole people. Some day not long hence, Fayette county will build a new court house. Let us have a say in the building— it is ours, it will belong to us, we have it to pay for. Who should say how much a pig, an automobile or a mule should be given in for taxation? Is there any standard? Are we all serv ed alike? How do we know we are or are not? Who would run a busi ness nowadays and know as about it as we people in Fayette county? As a county, let us recom mend to our officials more help or better methods and refine our coun ty business. This county needs to know collect ively what is known individually about stock raising, cultivation, drain age, fruit growing, breeding of stock, poultry, etc. We haven’t any clear ing house through which these facts can be distributed. We have in thq county orchards that have paid 50% dividends averag ing that pay 35% dividends; cotton experts that have taken poor soils, washed Hills and made a bale of cot ton the acre. That’s a broad assertion, but it is universally true. A good citizen is one who is independ ent, self-supporting, and who does things con ducive to the best interest of the commun ity. The man who has a bank account is independent, he is thrifty, he is able to pay his way, and he contributes to the general wealth of his community. His funds are in circulation. He pays taxes and helps to make things go. Likewise a man who has money and property in a community is anxious to see that the community prosper. We pull for the man with the bank account. It gives them needed ex ercise and keeps them free from lice and mites. If every farm home would keep a supply of popcorn and a popper con venient, fewer nickels could be spent for less wholesome knickknacks and more enjoyable evenings would be spent around the family hearth. “GET-UP AND GIT Tl Have you built that fireless cooker yet?
