Noted Scientist Expounds His Theory That Existence Cen ters in the Stomach—Inter est Shown All Over State. Interest continues all over the state : in the remarkable new theory ad vanced by John Pomeroy that stom ach trouble is responsible fcr the vast majority of cases of ill health. In an interview Mr. Pomeroy said: “Stomach trouble I consider the curse of the century. Thousands who do not know what is the matter with them are suffering from it. They take so- called ‘reatments’ for nervousness, kidney trouble, liver complaints, con stipation or heart trouble. And in vain, for they do not get at the real cause. The stomach in many cases has become slowly poisoned by drop ping of acid and nauseating mucus, usually from catarrh, into the throat during slumber, or careless swallow ing of it through the day. An inflamed condition results, digestion is arrest ed, dyspepsia is established, nutrition is denied, the appetite fails, the liver is clogged, the blood is fouled, kidneys can not act, constipation follows, pimples appear, aches and pains utter their warning and a general debility is the result, followed by suffering and death. “I cannot begin to number the peo ple who have come to me with pitiful stories of how they have dizzy spells, were weak all the time, cculd not sleep at night, got up in the mornings more tired than when they went to bed, and the very sight of food naus eated them. Or sometimes they had unnaturally ravenous appetites, felt stuffed up after eating, their minds wandered, violent headaches attack ed them, often accompanied by a sud den nausea, vomiting or fainting spells. Many had been forced to go without solid food for several weeks at a time, had always a sour stomach, were troubled with formation of gas YES, THEY CAN GO TOGETHER To the average buyer high prices mean higjh quality. JOHN POM-ROY on that organ, led the gloomy life of dyspeptics, the eyesight was affect ed, they were dull, tired, nervous and gloomy all the time. “Thousands of such sufferers have poured out their thanks to my med icine, Puratone, for restoring them to good health. I ani absolutely positive that Puratone will relieve any such case of stomach trouble in from four to six weeks.” Puratone is sold, in Fayetteville by James T. Edwards, in Woolsey by Lewis Bros., and by one leading drug gist in every town. If there is no Puratone dealer near you, Pomeroy & Company, Atlanta, Ga., will $11 your orders at. $1.04 per bottle, post paid. Many stores gain a reputat ion for high quality by charg ing high prices, because the idea of low prices brings the „ thought of low quality. *i( Our store is one example o f the fact that high quality and low prices can go together. Fife Mercantile &Hardware Co. PHONES: DRY GOODS Dept. 33, HARDWARE 48 FAYETTEVILLE, 6A. Reliable Glasses SELFISHNESS. or county as destroyed the millions in Daily you hear some one telling of the destructive things of the town and comunity. You may sura thew up and find excuse, but none are so detrimental to the proper growth of the individual, town selfishness. It has temporal interests of times past, and morally certain to de stroy the interest of millions yet to come. It is the principal source of all he sins of omission or commis sion. We doubt if you will see a wrong take place, but that the actor is moved by his own private, personal and selfish nature. Was it selfishness that prompted Germany to try to crush nations? Most cases in our courts are prompted by selfishness and not to find justice, truth and light. The selfish person lives as if the world were made altogether for him, and not for the world; to take in everything, and part with nothing. We do not mean that the unselfish will not get rich. A pauper may be the most selfish man in town Selfishness contracts and narrows our benevolence, and causes us, like serpents, to unfold ourselves, wither ourselves and turn out our stings to all the community besides. The essence of true nobility is neg lect of self. Satan lived for self. Christ lived for others. Let the though of self pass in, and the beauty of great actions is gone, It main tains its ground by tenacity and con tention, and engenders strife and dis cord, where all before was peace and harmony. It dwarfs all the better na ture of man or woman. Generally his mind is never expanded beyond the circumference of the almjghky fol iar. Chances for doing good pass un improved in order that some slight personal advantage might be gained, kindly feelings were suppressed. The heart, which was intended to beat with compassion for others, is con tracted. He does not work for a bet ter neighbor and community. These never build towns, schools and churches. Their aims and objects never build lives and characters that live.
