For the past week from one to a dozen report to me about the worms eating their corn. In some cases it is I as much as half. This is called the corn borer. You can dust in the bud with arsenate of lead, but the opinions t)f the expert are to the effect that it would not prove profitable, because many of these borers have entered at the bottom of the stalk. Dusting will only help those stalks where the borer was onty in top of stalk. I would like to see a few fall Irish potatoes on every farm. Some mem bers of every family (like them and we can all eat them through the win ter if we grow them. Lookout Moun tain is a good one. Some like the Red Bliss. One-tenth of an acre will make enough for home use. Break the ground and harrow every week until last half of July. You can dispose of all you do not use. Be sure and watch for boll weevil and give your cotton a shalolw culti vation; every week is recommended. Experiment stations and college of agriculture, recommend shallow and level cultivation of corn. This does not injure roots and conserves mois ture and at same time keeps down the weeds. W. N. D.
