Mr. Jack Phillips of Elberton is
spending a few days with the family
of Mr. J. E. Travis.
Miss Crystal Camp has returned
from a two weeks visit to relatives at
Douglasville.
Mr. H. C. Paul of Madison county
and B. D. Seagraves of Commerce
•were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. M.
L. Seagraves this week.
Mr. James McBride, Jr., has been
appointed to rural route number and
will assume**his duties in a few days.
Col. and Mrs. L. C. Dickson spent
Sunday at Douglasville.
Miss Mary Thompson of Columbus
is spending some time the guest of
Mrs. R. H. Bennett and Miss Roxie
Blalock.
Mr. G. M. Dorman returned Wed
nesday from a week’s visit to relatives
in Texas.
Mr. L. A. Harris and family spent
Sunday with Mrs. Ike Loyde.
Miss Hesper Thornton returned
Monday from a visit to Launderback
Springe, Tenn.
Waymond Robert, the two and a
half year old son of Mr. and Mrs. J.
R. Edmundson, was badly burned last
Saturday morning at their lumje. in
Atlanta, and later died at a hospital
and was brought here Sunday and
buried Monday. The litle one fell in
a pail of hot water. The many
friends of the bereaved parents here
join the News in condolence in their
loss.

sional District of Georgia:
Appreciating the past kindness of
the voters of the Sixth District, and
the many expressions concerning my
candidacy, which, at least’, indicate a
willingness to support me again, I
announce as a candidate for the 67th
congress - to succeed myself, subject
to such rules and regulations as may
be adopted by the Democratic Ex
ecutive Committee of the Sixth Dis
trict.
I am expecting to make a canvass
of the district, and I hope to have

The families of Messrs. I. M. GoGod-
man and C. E. Ward spent Monday at
the camp.
Mr. Delos Miller and wife of Sunny
Side spent Monday with the latter’s
parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Davis.
Miss uVra Davis of Atlanta spent
the week-end at home with her par
ents, Judge and Mrs. J. J. Davis.
Those who attended our picnic last
Thursday are all of the opinion it
was one of, if not the best day’s
outing the people of our town ever
had. There were about five hundred
present and from a few weeks to
eighty-eight years of age. There
were baskets and pork, beef, mutton
and kid cooke d right, and served to
the delight of all. There was Bruns
wick stew for all and plenty left over.
Every one had plenty and what they
wanted to eat, and so far as we could
see, everyone from the youngest to
the oldest enjoyed every part of the

last Sunday on account of so many
going to the memorial singing at The
Rock.
The fanners through this section
would like 1 to see a good rain.
Mrs. Mattie Lora McCullers and
Jessie Head spent a few days last
week with Mrs. Alice McEachern of
Hopeful.
Miss Berta Walker returned home
last Saturday after spending some
time with her sister in Atlanta.
Mrs. Evie Flowers is real sick at
this writing. We hope that she may
soon recover.
Miss Janet Griffin spent Saturday
the guest of Miss Mattie Head.
Miss Odessa Ellison is spending
some time the guest of her aunt, Mrs.
Mattie Walker.
Sunday afternoon, Everett Gay,
while riding a horse, fell and died al
most instantly. He and another boy
were out riding horse back, the first
seen was that Everett was on the
ground. He was rushed to a physi
cian, but died almost as soon as a
physician was reached. Everett was
a son of Mr. and Mrs. T. R. Gay, and
wa.s considered one of the best hoys
in our town. He was 12 years of age,
an active member of the Baptist
church and Shnday school. He was
kind to old and young and always
ready and willing to do his part. The
funeral exercises were conducted at
the Baptist church Tuesday afternoon
by his pastor, Rev. C. L. Foote, assist
ed 1 by Revs. G. P. Gay, Walter Car
michael and L. P. Glass. EYerett wasi
a good boy and will be missed by not
only his people, but by the people of
the entire town.
EAST SIDE
Mr. and Mrs. Devered Elite and
children of Atlanta were guests of
relatives and friends in East Side last
Sunday.
Mrs. Otis Holt and children of Hope
ful spent the week-end with Mrs. Tom
Holt.
The Misses Miller attended the
funeral of their nephew, Mr. Rape, at
McDonough last Sunday. i
Several from East ..Side attended
the fish fry at Dixon’s Bridge last
Saturday, and all expressed them
selves as having had a good time.
Miss Laura A. Thornton has been
on the sick list the past few days. We
wish her an early recovery.
Mrs. Tempie Brown and son,, Mr.
Mr. Elonza Long and family 0^“ Brown, of Clayton county vis-
! ited Mrs. Tom Holt last Sunday.
Campbell county spent Sunday night
and Monday with Mr. and Mrs. J. H.
Head.
Miss Elsie Smith was the guest of
Miss Mattie Lora McCullars last Sun
day.
Mrs. Cora Harper and children of
Fife visited relatives here last Mon
day.
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Carroll of Pal
metto spent last Monday the guests
of Mr. J. F. Harper and family,
Mr. Charlie Elder died at home
here last Thursday after an illness
of several weeks. He was buried at
Sandy Creek Friday evening. We ex
tend to his wife a^id all the bereaved
our sympathy.

Monday. Let all he ready to start
their children the first day and try
to make it a successful term while it
will be short, if everyone will do their
best the children will be benefitted.
Mrs. C. C. Norton and Mrs. Cliff
Kerlin visited in Vaughn last Sunday.
The annual reunion of the Confed
erate veterans of Fayette county will
be held ,at Hopewell church on Fri
day, the 16th day of July, 1920. All
Veterans are requested to be present,
as an election will be held for a com
mander. Young soldiers of the World
war are invited to meet with us.

The annual short course for the
boys and girls club work will be held
at the Sixth District A. & M. School
on July 19, 20 and 21. The first two
days will be devoted largely to club
work, but on Wednesday, July 121,
there will he an interesting program
for the fanners and their wives. This
will he boll weevil day.
The program will be announced
next week.
