Mize and daughter, Miss Nel lie Kate, are at Commerce this week. Miss ' Inez Guy of Atlanta is the guest of friends here. Mrs. Avery Murphy of East Point is visiting relatives in our city. Mrs. Nora Millsapps was the guest of her uncle, Mr. James Austen of Kirkwood, last week. Mr. and Mrs. J. T. McCollum and family, Mr. and Mrs. E. V. Jones at tended meeting at Salem camp ground Sunday. Miss Mattie Mae Lewis accompan ied by Miss Irene Dixon, have return ed from a visit to relatives in Charles ton, S. C. Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Evans of Gilberts were the guests of A. J. Mitchell and fmaily last week. Misses Corria Dozier of Zebulon and Janie Hightower of Kenwood are the guests of Mrs. B. J. Hightower. Mr. and Mrs. R. E. L. Fife and daughter, Miss Elizabeth, are spend ing a while with Mr. Irvni Fife at Oklahoma City. Miss Lara Thornton is spending, the week with her sister, Mrs. Lewis Ken drick of Atlanta Mrs. W. T. Cleveland spent the week-end with Alex Mitchell and fam ily near Ebeneier. Miss | Berta Jones has returned to her home in Clayton county after a week’s visit to her brother, L. C. Jones. , ,, Rev. and Mrs. J. P. Porter of Jones* boro spent Sunday here. Dr. John Graves, wife and daughter, Miss Nina Mae of Zebulon were the week-end guests of the family of Mrs. J. W. Kitchens. For many years the Thornton fam ily have been assembled on the sec ond Saturday in August for their re union. This year they met at the home of Mr. W. O. Coleman near Fife. Representatives from all the family connections were present. A good dinner was spread and the day spent in happy reflections of the past. Dr. Unioe Thornton has returned to his home in Florida, after spending the week the guest of relatives. Mr. James McBride has been ap pointed for rural carrier on route No. 4. He assumed his duties last Mon day. Rev. C. A. Adams is having a good meeting at New Hope. Rev. Geo. D. Gary is hloding revival services at Ebeneezer this week. Delighted With R. O. Tarpley’s Candidacy Mrs. J. W. Kitchens is spending the week with relatives at Zebulon. Miss Crystal Camp visited relatives in Fairbum htis week. Prof. Melvin Thornton of Athens has been at home for two weeks. Mrs. W. T. Cleveland has returned from a week’s visit to relatives in We wree delighted to learn Mr. R. 0. Tarpley, an old Fayette boy, was a candidate for state senator. Mr. Tarpley was born in this county o poor parents, but of good families. His educational advantages were only those of the common schools, but mostly of his own efforts. Soon after his marriage he bought a farm and moved to Campbell county. Success has crowned his efforts, and he is said to be one of the best farm ers of his section. He has raised a large family and sent most of his chil dren to college. He taught them wrok was honorable, and it was no trouble to keep them on the farm. He is a leader in his community. He had 3 boys in the late war. He is a friend to the public schools and public insti tutions. He Is active in public affairs. He is a Christian gentleman, and would make Georgia a mighty good senator.
