Mrs. D. F. Thompson entertained Bride's Club. Thursday, July 28. Mrs. H. A. Carithers is entertain ing Young Matrons club. Mrs. Horton entertains at swim ming party. Friday, July 29. Mrs. O. M. Jackson will entertain at morning party for Mrs. Rankin. Young Matrons club will give pic iiic at Appleby’s Mill in honor of Mrs. Rankin. Swimming Party. A. merry occasion which was much i enjoyed by the younger set was the swimming party on Wednesday after noon by Mrs. W. C. Horton at Apple b.<s Mill. About twenty girls enjoyed the occasion. In Honor of Mrs. Rankin. Among the many delightful events of the week at which Mrs. H. M. Rankin of Toledo, Ohio, lias been the honor guest was the morning party on Mon day at which Mrs. G. H. Fortson was hostess. Besides the honor guest those present were Mesdames Ralph Smith, I}. F. Thompson, R. H. Kimball, J. J. Wilson, J. M. Aiken, Robert Camp, H. A. Carithers and Henry Pledger Picnic in Honor of Mrs. H. M. Rankin. A jolly occasion of this week was the picnic luncheon on Tuesday afternoon, at which Mrs. Rankin was honor guest. The party motored to Athens and on their return stopped at Mitchel’s bridge where they enjoyed a lovely picnic lun cheon. The party was composed of Mesdames Rankin, G. C. Moseley, Hen ry Pledger, P. A. Flanigan, R. H. Kim ball. J. J. Wilson, W. L. DeLaPerriere, Walter Cooper, Roy Jackson and J. M. Aiken. Spend-the-Day-Party. Miss Sara Joe Roberts delightfully entertained at a spend-the-day party on Wednesday, in honor of the visiting girls in town. The guests included Misses Elizabeth Rankin, of Toledo, 0.. Tucile Eavenson, of Bowman, Ruth Wa ges, of Tignall, Virginia Daniel of Hu go, Col., Nelle Walker, of Greenville, S. C., Gladys Eavenson, Frances Hub bard and Margaret Walker. Watermelon Cutting. Mrs. W. C. Horton complimented a number of the younger girls with a water melon cutting last Saturday af ternoon. The party was composed of Misses Lucile Eavenson, Gladys Eaven son, Mary Ross, Elizabeth Rankin, Virginia Daniel, Caroline Aiken, Ger trude Mott, Gladys McClellan, Sara Joe Roberts and W. C. Horton, Jr. Six (PC .oek Dinner. Mrs. J. M. Aiken was hostess at a lovely six o’clock dinner last Saturday complimentary to Mrs. Rankin, a much feted visitor this week. Varl-colored summer flowers were used in a most effective decorative manner. An elab orate course dinner was served. The guests were Mesdames Rankin, J. J. Wilson, B. B. Jackson, R. H. Kimball, Ralph Smith, D. F. Thompson and Miss Redmond. Beautiful AI Fresco Party. A beautiful event of this week’s cal endar was Monday afternoon when Ms. J. J. Wilson was the charming hos tess at a bridge party, the honor guest being Mrs. Rankin. The tables were arranged op the spacious porch and white and lavender petunias were pro fusely used as decorations. A deli cious salad course was served. Those enjoying this occasion were Mesdames Rankin. Kimball, Broome. Ware. G. H. Fortson. Peldger, Robert Camp, P. A. Flanigan, Carithers, Ralph Smith, D. F. Thompson, Hubert Eberhart, G. C. jfroseley and J. W. Griffeth. ( Mesdames Haralson and Maddox Entertain. One of the largest and loveliest so cial events of the gay summer season was the party on Friday afternoon, giv en by Mesdames Frances HaraHou and C. O. Maddox. A profusion of marigold and other flowers were used as decorations and the color motif of yellow and green was effectively car ried out. “Progressive Initials” was a feature of the afternoon. H. Faust, and Mrs. W. E. Faust, who is on a visit to her daugh- Mrs Nowell, attended church services at Oconee Baptist church in Jackson county last Sunday afternoon. * • Mrs. Omie Richardson, who was spending a few days vacatioh at Ty bee Island, was called home last week on account of the illness of her father, Mr. L. J. McElhannon, who died Mon day. • • Mrs. B. E. Thrasher, Jr., and children who have been visiting Dr. and Mrs. H. P. Quillian, left this week for Wat kinsville were she will visit relatives before returning to her home in Plains, Ga. Mr. Grover C. Moseley, Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Coker, Miss Leila Coker and Mrs. Higginbotham, of Atlanta, returned last week from a visit to friends in Greenville, Spartanburg and oeher points in South Carolina. • • Mrs. J. W. Bone and Mrs. Frances Higginbotham have returned to their home in Atlanta after a visit to Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Coker and family. They were accompanied home by Mr. and Mrs. Coker who will spend a few days there. • • Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Ferguson and Miss Beulah Ferguson, Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Coker, Mrs. Higginbotham, Miss Leila Coker and Mr. G. C. Moseley mo tored to Reldville and Spartanburg, 8. C., last week and spent a few days with relatives. • • Mr. Oscar Summerour and Ernest House have returned fom a pleasant motor trip around Asheville, N. C., while Mrs O. E. Summerour and little Billy remained at Hendersonville, N. C„ for a week or so. “Billy wanted to climb a few more of those high moun tains before returning to Winder. • • Mr. Waiter Cooper, a former Winder resident, and one who is very popular here, was in the city last week. Mr. Cooper called at this office and had the label set up in advance on his paper, and also had a copy sent to his brother at Asheville, N. C„ who is ill in a san atorium there. • • Mr. Paul Davis, who has been trav eling salesman for the Gregory-Wood ruff Cos., of this city, will leave this company August Ist. He will spend a vacation of two weeks in the moun tains. after which he will again take up the sample case with another com pany. Mr. Davis came here from Rome, Ga., and has mad/? many friends during his sojourn in Winder. Mr. Lamar Smith of Atlanta spent Sunday here. • * Mr. C. C. Cooper, of Grayson, was in the city on business Tuesday. * * Mrs. J. V. Edwards is visiting rela tives in Hoschton this week. . • Miss Erma Hancock of Jefferson was he guest of Miss Icie Smith last week. • • Mr. Dwight Cam, of Rome, Ga., was a visitor to this city the first of the week. • • Mrs. Walter Cooper of Atlanta, is spending a few days here with friends and relatives. • * Dr. and Mrs. W. Ga., where he was called to the bedside of his broth er who was very ill with typhoid fever and who died Saturday.
