Light-Boss.

Mr. J. O. Boss of Carl and Mrs. An
nie Light of Nashville, Tenn., were unit
ed in the holy bonds of matrimony by
Rev. J. B. Brookshire at his home on
Athens street on Thursday evening.
July 28. Mr. Boss is one of the lead
ing farmers of this county. The bride
is a relative of Mrs. J. N. Williams of
near Bethabra.

Miss Hubbard Hostess at
Prom Party.
Miss Frances Hubbard was the
charming hostess at a delightful prom
party last Friday night complimentary
to /her house guests, Misses Mamie
Reeves, Julia Katherine Little and Sara
Frances Ashberry of Elberton. Punch
served by Mrs. W. F. Hubbard and
Mrs. Reese Couch.
About sixty members of the younger
set enjoyed this delightful occasion.
Miss Gertrude Young Entertains.
Miss Gertrude Young entertained a
few of her friends on last Friday af
ternoon. As the guests arrived they
were served punch. After enjoying
games and contests a delightful frozen
course was served.

Beautiful Dinner Partv.
The home of Judge and Mrs. G. A.
Johns presented a lovely scene on Mon
day evening when Miss Mary Louise
Johns complimented her charming
guests, Miss Ruth Smith, of Ensley, S.
C., with a beautiful dinner.
The entire lower floor of this spa
cious home was beautifully decorated
with ferns and bright yellow flowers;
the color scheme of green and gold was
further carried out in the five course
dinner that was served.
Covers were laid for sixteen.
Mrs. Roy Jackson entertains.
On Saturday afternoon Mrs. Roy
Jackson gave a tea for Mrs. H. M.
Rankin, of Toledo, Ohio, and Mrs. Wal
ter Cooper of The living
room and dining-room were thrown to
gether and beautifully decorated in
summer flowers of all colors. Mrs.
Jackson was assisted in receiving and
serving by Mesdames. H. A. Carlthers
R H. Kimball, Ralph Smith, Robert
Camp! J. C. Pratt and K. P. Carpenter.
Mrs. Albert Williams p resided at the
victrola. Punch and sandwiches were
enjoyed. About seventy-five ladies were

A pretty affair of last week was the

Miss Margaret Walker etertaied at
a prom party last Thursday eveping in
honor of Misses Nell Walker of Green
ville, S. C., Sarah Frances Asberry,
Julia and Catherin Reeves and Mamie
Jones of Elberton. About 80 guests
were present.
DowisHuff Wedding.
An impressive ceremony took place
Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock at
the Baptist church when Miss Alice
Vivian Dowis, the daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. W. C. Dowis, and Dr. Joseph Al
len Huff were united in marriage, Rev.
8. F. Dowis, a brother of the bride, of
ficiating. The church was prettily dec
orated with ferns and pink dahlias. Pre
ceding the ceremony Miss Ruth Sum
merour sung “At Dawning,” accompa
nied by Mrs. Harrison Summerour, who
also played the wedding march. Misses
Virginia Boyce Wilson, Jacqueline
Reese, Pearl Strickland and Janet Pit
tard were ribbon bearers. Mary Tay
lor and Mary Dowis wee flower girls.
They were all dressed in dainty white
organdy dresses with pink ribbons.
Miss Anne Ray, of Norcross, who was
bridesmaid, wore white organdy and
carried pink roses. The bride was at
tractive, wearing a tailored blue suit
and carried bride’s roses. Dr. Bert
Wood, of Lawrenceville, was best man.
Messrs. Herbert Dowis and Dossie
Phillips, were ushers. After a ten
days’ stay at Wrightsville Beach, Dr.
and Mrs. Huff will be at home to their
friends in Winder, where Dr. Huff
holds a responsible position with the

A Surprise Birthday Gathering.
One of the happiest gatherings of re
cent date was that of Sunday, July 31,
when the family of Mr. and Mrs. James
N. Williams met in reunion, at their
country home. The occasion was a
complete surprise to the parents in hon
or of the birthday of the mother. Ev
ery member of the family, including all
grand children were present. A table
loaded with a bountiful barbecue dinner
was arranged in the big oak grove sur
rounding the home. After this enjoy
able feature of the day the family
gathered in side for music and conver
sation; a passage of scripture was read
and every one present paid tribute of
love and appreciation to the honored
mother and father.

Rev. L. W. Collins is assisting the
pastor at Campton this week in a re
vival meeting. Rev. J. B. Gresham re
ports a great meeting which recently
closed at Statham with record congre
gations at both morning and night ser
vices.

tended visit to his old home in South
Carolina to visit his mother, brothers,
nnd his two daughters, Misses Fay and
Lois.

Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Robertson, of
Rutledge, spent Wednesday in the
city with the latter’s parents, Mr and
Mrs. J. W. McWhorter. Mr. Robert
son went to Crawford, Ga., where they
will make their home in the future

his cotton firm. He says the people up
that way are in worse shape than in
