One of the prettiest events of the
season was the party given Friday ev
ening by Miss Mabel Herrin for her
guest, Miss Minlu Chastain, of Thorn
asville, and Miss Dorothy Rowland, of
.Athens, who is the guest of Miss Letha
Cooper.
The porch was' decorated in pot
plants and Japanese lanterns, while the
lower floor was thrown together
and the color scheme of yellow and
white was used everywhere.
The receiving line was composed of
Misses Mabel Herrin, Minlu Chastain,
Dorothy Rowland, Letha Cooper ar.d
Messrs. Otis Harrison, Keith Quarter
man, Henry Drake and Harold Mc-
Donald. Misses Imogene Herrin and

After about two hours of promenad

Honors Mrs. Burch.
The Young Matrons club of this city
a pleasant swimming party on
Monday afternoon at Appleby’s Mill
honor of Mrs* W. J. Burch, of El
berton, who has been the guest of
friends in the city.
A delightful picnic lunch was served
and the honoree was presented with a
dainty cook book and a beautiful set
of aluminum cooking utensils. Those
enjoying this occasion were Mr. and

Brides Club Holds
Business Meeting.
The Brides club met Friday after
noon at the home of Mrs J. W. Grif
feth for a short business meeting. Sev
eral Interesting items of business were
discussed and disposed of, after which
the club motored to Apleby’s mill. An
hour of swimming was enjoyed follow
ed by a delicious sandwich feast.

Mrs. W. J. Burch.
Mrs. G. C. Moseley and Mrs. J. M.
Aiken were joint hostesses at a delight
ful reception given Tuesday afternoon
m honor of Mrs. W. J. Burch, of El
bertou, who was Mrs. Reba Vonder
leitli, of this city.
The colors were yellow and white
and were beautifully carried out iu
the decorations of golden glow and
marigold, with which the entire floor
was tastefully arranged. The punch
bowl, artistically decorated on the
front porch, was gracefully presided
over by Mrs. Robert Camp and Mrs.
Hulme Kinnebrew.
Those assisting in receiving were Mrs
C. M. Ferguson, Mrs. Paul Roberts,
Mrs. J. W. Griffeth, Mrs. J 8. Har
grove, Mrs Bessie Edwards, and Mrs.
Ralph Smith. Mrs Carter Daniel and
Mrs J. F. Broome presided at the Ed
ison and delightful music was rendered
during the afternoon.
Mrs. A. D. McCurry and Mrs. J. J.
Wilson cut the cream and assisting in
the dining room were Mrs. Lee DeLa-
Perriere, Mrs. Fleming Thompson, Mrs.
J. S. Hargrove and Miss Claude Coker.
The ladies receiving"were daintily at
tired in evening dresses of tulle and
lace.
About seventy-five guests called dur
ing the afternoon.

Hostess.
Mrs. W. E. Oliver was hostess at a
delightful afternoon party for her sis
ter, Miss Sarah Webb, of College Park,
on last Tuesday. The guests included
the members of the young social set,
and they presented an unusually pret
ty picture as they assembled on the
lawn of the home of Mrs. S. W. Ar
nold. Mesdames Colvard and Smith
served punch as the guests arrived, and
throughout tlie games and contests. In
the ‘Tree’ contest, Miss Elizabeth Kim
ball won the prize, a beautiful box of
stationery. In a unique sewing con
test Miss Beatrice 'Wilhite was award
ed a lovely box of handkerchiefs. A
delicious salad course with ices was
served at a late hour.. The guest list
included Misses Webb, Smith, Wood
ruff. Johns. Herrin. Ferguson, Rogers,
Bell, Millsaps, Kimball, Russell, Starr,
Wilhite, Eavenson, Robinson. Mes
dames Harold Herrin, Colvard, Erastus
Smith and Holsenbeek.

Senior Priscillas.
Mrs. W. C. Horton entertained the
Senior Priscilla Sewing club last Fri
day afternoon An exchange of ideas
on sewing and Fancy work was inter
esting to all present. Splendid music
was rendered by Mrs. Howard Mann.
A delicious course of melons and fruits
were served.

Miss Letha Cooper was hostess on
Friday morning at a “bunco” party in
honor of her guest, Miss Dorothy Row-
I land, of Athens, and Miss Minlu Chas
! tain, of Thomasville, the guest of Miss
Mabel Herrin.
As the guesta arrived they were ser
ved punch by Mrs. Paul Williams. The
guests were seated at tables arranged
on the porch where many exciting
games of bunco were played, after
which a delicious salad course was
served.

bacon-fry at Cedar Creek pool Tuesday
afternoon in honor of Claude Lester

ville. After a delightful swim the lit
tle guests made their camp fires, re
pared and cooked their own supper.

“Oaklawn,” the handsome residence
of Mr. and Mrs. W. B. McCants, was
the scene of a pretty party Tuesday
evening when Misses Nell and Char
lotte McCants entertained for their
guest, Miss Ruth Lanier, of Atlanta.
The lawn was illumined with Japan
ese lanterns. As the guests arrived
they were served punch by Miss Nell
McCants. Later in the evening an ice
course was served and “proms" were
the feature of the evening. About thir
ty of Winder’s younger set enjoyed the
Misses McCants’ hospitality.

Club.
Mrs. D. F. Thompson delightfully
entertained the Bride's club ami sev
eral friends at her home on Broad
street, Wednesday afternoon. The
time was passed very pleasantly with
sewing and conversation, and the close
of which a tempting salad course was
served. Mrs. Thompson was assisted
in entertaining by her mother, Mrs. G.
W. Smith, and her sisters, Mrs. E. F.

Miss Lila Moore Enter
tains For Visitors.
One of the most enjoyable social af
fairs of recent months was the water
melon cutting given by Miss Lila Moore
last Monday evening in honor of Miss
Chastain and Miss Mobley. Delightful
punch was served throughout the ev
ening. Proms were enjoyed by the
guests. At a late hour delicious water
melons were served. About eighty
members of the younger set enjoyed
Miss Moore’s hospitality.

A marriage of interest to a wide cir
cle of friends was that of Miss Sara
Ophelia Mahaffey and Mr. William
Monroe Bailey, which took place at
Campton Thursday afternoon, August
4th. Rev. J. B. Gresham officiating.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. W.
H. Mahaffey of Winder and U a young
woman of charming personality. The
groom is a prosperous farmer of Jack
son county and possesses many sterling
qualities.

Meadow-Hosch
Wedding.
Of much interest to many friends was
the marriage of Miss Mary R. Meadow
to Mr. Paul S. Hosch which oceured at
Between, Ga., Tuesday evening. Aug
ust 9, in the presence of a few’ rela
tives and intimate friends, Rev. L. W.
Collins, in his very impressive way
performed the marriage using the ring
ceremony.
Miss Meadow is one of Winder's most
benutiful and popular young ladies,
possessing many noble traits of char
acter.
Mr. Hosch is a young business man
of sterling qualities. He is well known
in the insurance field, being a member
of the Arm of Riley & Hosch Insurance
Agency.
After a short wedding trip they will
be at home to their friends in this city.
