Voluntary Bankruptcy
It is not right easy fur man to got
Into bankruptcy if the proci>ediiigs an*
contested. In the past business men
have slept over tlieir rights ami have
taken whatever the courts would give
them. However. this policy "ill
tloul less change if the bankruptcy cas
es increase. For anyone to go into
voluntary bankruptcy he must swear to
every allegation in the petition and
make a clean showing of all his assets
as well as liabilities. If lie hides any
of his property, ho commits perjury,
which is a state and Moral crime, and
can be prosecuted. When a man seeks
.■voluntary bankruptcy lie wants the law
to shelter him and annul his debts.
Hence, bo is o\ported to show a clean
hand to his creditors in the courts. Of
ten in the past men have gotten into se
rious trouble by swearing falsely to
their assets. We have heard of cases
■where such is a fact. How much bet
ter it would be for a man to call his
creditors together, make a clean show
ing to them and try to affect it settle
ment with them. In this way court
<-osos could !c eliminated and the cred
itors would get more than they would
if taken into court.
We hope there will be no voluntary
bankruptcy proceedings in Harrow
county, but if there is, let every one
who seeks the courts for the set I le
nient of his debts, realize at once the
danger of the proceedings if he tries to
act dishonestly with his creditors. Don’t
perjure yourslf and stand a chance of
breaking into the federal penitentiary.
