Writes Letter
DEAR FRIEND:
We are doing away with the bookkeeping- and col
lecting erpenses. This will enable us to sell cheaper.
We are forced to a cash basis. When we say cash, we
mean CASH; that is, all merchandise paid for when it
leaves our store.
There are many who have had a charge account with
us and paid all they owed, for which we are thankful,
but on account of so many who have not paid us we have
our tonnage.
We are writing this letter so that no misunderstand
ing may occur. Some are going to send for an article
and say “have it charged until I come to town.” We
can’t do it. There is only one way to sell for cash and
that is NOT CHARGE ANYTHING TO ANYONE.
So please be governed accordingly.
We will continue to handle a high quality of mer
chandise.
QUALITY MERCHANDISE MAKES FRIENDS,
CASH MAKES NO ENEMIES.
Wishing you a happy New Year and soliciting your
continued patronage, we are,
Yours very truly,
SMITH HARDWARE CO.
