Got the blues again—washed
away. We are told by the oldest
men in this section that the heav
iest rain fell Saturday evening that
they have ever seen.
The Hoschton baseball team
came over again Monday evening
and were trimmed by the home
team by the score of nine *o six.
School opened at this place Mon
day morning with about one hun
dred pupils. The corps of teachers
consists of Prof. Richburg and wife
and Miss Vestie Pirkle, of Hosch
ton.
Nearly every one in this section
went to Hoschton Saturday. They
all seem to have enjoyed themselves
hugely.
There was a big fish fry at Bud
Brewer’s Wednesdays What a time
we had eating fish, drinking lem
onade and reveling in the music
furnished by Wheeler brothers and
Stnncil. You should have been
with us, Duke, to enjoy the feast.
Mrs. E- B. Duster and children
spent a few days this week with her
parents near Walnut.
Big old Pos Braselton was shak
ing hands in this section a few days
ago. So now personally and through
the press we have heard the plat
form of all the candidates for com
missioner except Haynie. Come

Mr. E. W. Greeson’s mill dam
was badly damaged Saturday night.

and now they are worse. Better

Several from here met at Camp's
Mills and had a fish fry July 1.
All report plenty of fish.
Mrs. C. E. Tuck visited Mr. and
Mrs. Hardigree, of near Winder,
Saturday and Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Harvie DeLay at
tended the fa se la singing at Shoal
Creek Sunday.
Miss Minnie Clack spent last week
with Mrs. R. E. Clack, of near
Bethlehem.
School started here Monday, July
6th, under the care of Mrs. Clara
House.
Mr. L. L. Rogers’ family spent
the latter part of last week at Beth
lehem.
Mrs. Maud Camp and children
visited J. H. Clack’s family Satur
day.
Mr. and Mrs. T. A. Smith and
children spent Sunday with Mr.
John Thompson and family.
Mrs. R. E. ("lack and son, Paul,
were the guests of Mr. and Mrs.

CORINTH.
Crops are growing nicely through
this section.
Several from here attended
preaching at Bethlehem Sunday.
Mrs. 0. A. Johnson and Miss
Neva Morris, of Winder, are visiting

Quite a number from here went
fishing Friday and Saturday.
Our Sunday school is flourishing.
Sunday school every Sunday morn
ing at 10:00 o'clock and preaching
every third Sunday.
The school started at this place
Monday morning under the care
of Miss Bertie Wiley, of Covington.
Mr. Sam Kenny visited relatives
in Atlanta Sunday.
Several from here attended the
base hall game at New Chapel Satur
day alternoon.

LEBANON.
Quite a number of our citizens
attended the reunion at Jefferson
July 4th.
Hon. J. P. Kelly, of Jefferson,
cnididate for sheriff, was in our
midst a part of last week shaking
hands with our citizens.
Mr. and Mrs. M. T. Toney, of
Athens, spent Saturday and Sun
day with Mr. Jim Holliday’s family.
Mr. P. W. Quattlebaum, of Win-
der, was here a short time last week.
Mrs. J. L. Doolittle is on the sick
list.
E. B. Martin and M. C. Guest
attended quarterly meeting at
Bethany Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. D. F. Whitehead,
of Red Stone, called here Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Guest have
returned home after spending two
weeks with their son in Elbert coun
ty.
Mr. C. C. Holliday and Miss Sal
lie Spencer were united in marriage
last Sunday. We lift our hat and
extend our hand to them with the
hope that they may have a happy

joyed very much.

Mr. M. A. Holloway and family
visited the latter’s parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Barry Partain Sunday.

We had a nice rain here Sunday,
which made the crops look fresh.

RUSSELL.
The people around Russell are
about done work and are enjoying
themselves.
Mr. and Mrs. Sellers spent Thurs
day night with the family of Mr.
Cox.
Mr. and Mrs. Pierce, of South
Carolina, spent a few days of this
week with Mr. Curtis and family.
Mr. Emory Darby, of Monroe,
was a visitor to Russell Saturday.
We have had a pleasant time in
Russell this week. The town has
been filled with boys and girls at
tending the house party at the home
of Judge Russell.
A birthday dinner was greatly
enjoyed at the home of Mr. Will
Smith on last Friday. v
Mr. and Mrs. Walter R. Mathis
and Mrs. Henry S. West, of Ath
ens, are the guests of Judge and
Mrs- R. B. Russell.
Mr. A. A. Darby and family, of
Yidalia, are visiting Mr. and Mrs.
Will Smith. Mr. Darby is think
ing of locating here. We would be
glad to have him with us.
STATHAM,
Well, I guess the fellow that was
grumbling for rain has t-een satis
fied.
Ard work time will soon be over
and then we'll rest and eat dem
water-mellons.
Mr. H. K. Persons, of Montocello,
was in the city Sunday, the guest
of friends. Come again, Pers; you
have lot's of good friends here and
are always welcome.
Guy J. Thurmond was in Bishop
one day this week on business.
Quite a numl>er of our people
were at the reunion at Jefferson.
The regular protracted meeting
begins at the Christian church Sun
day. Special music has been
arranged, and there will be a large
attendance.
Col. J. F. Holmes was in Watkins-
ville and Athens this week <>n legal
business.
“All Smiles” Jim Griffith was
on our streets Tuesday.
Capt. W. W. Wofford was in
Watkinsyille on business this week.
Mr. J. W. Laneir and Mr. W. D.
Bolton were delegates to the K. of P.
convention at Monroe. They report
a great time and spoke of how nice
those g<x>d old Monroe people tried
to be. They will do that.
How sad to learn ofG. A. Lewis’
death. He was indeed a good man.
The homicide in Monroe is a de.
plorible affair,and is much regretted
by the many friends of the parties.
The friends of Miss Eunice Guinn
are delighted to see her out again
after several days of illness.
Mr. Starns Micheal has purchased
a nice lot and will erect a nice cot
tage and moye his family here in
the near future.
Mr- Cooper, of Coiner, has pur
chased a home here and will move
his family to our growing little
city.

Miss Fauna Tucker will leave
today for Lookout Mountain, where
she will spend a month with rela
tives.
Mr. Pink Dooley has returned
from a trip to Bain bridge, where he
was called to see his daughter, Mrs.
Alt Cooker, who was quite sick.
We learn that she is much better.

this week her daughter. Mrs. Marion
Arnold,and niece and little nephew,
of Athens.
Pierce Cody has returned from
Atlanta, after spending a week with

Arnold, of Athens, have been in
the city for several days, the guests
of relatives.
Miss Ola Daniel, of Winder, lias
returned borne after a weeks’ visit to
her brother, Dr. J. C. Daniel.
Mr. Newton Butler, of Athens,
was in the city Tuesday.
The K. of P. local lodge had a
fine time at their regular meeting
Tuesday night. Lot of good things
to eat was the order of the evening.

she is recovering from a several
weeks’ illness.
