ELECTIONS IN CUBA.
Social Correspondent Describes the
Antics of Uncle Sam’s
Charges.
Wt* dip the following rx tract from
a special letter to l lie CoiiHtitution.
The elections are drawing near in
Cuba, and the different parties are
having their demonstrations. Wo
are prepared to lielieve every sen
tence contained in the clipping as a
frank statement ot fact, devoid of
coloring. Judge for yourself wheth
er they are competent to govern
themselves:
“One of the most amusing things
that has occurred lately was the
mammoth demonstration last week
of the Migueliatas. Ten or fifteen
thousand people took part in it that
night, all sexes, colors, classes and
ages, hut the white was in the mi
nority and the great unwashed took
precedence. There was small at
tempt at organization or order.
One ntrikingobject lesson during
the demonstration was the figure
typifying Culm bibre (Cuban Lib-
a negro girl drain'd in the flag
and waving the banner, riding in
a carriage alone. Standing up
she gesticulated, screamed and
danced, her shrill voice dominating
the hoarser cries of the mob. She
looked the spirit incarnate of ignor
ance, lawlessness and vice. With
her fat arms waving above her mat
woolly hair, her heavy figure sway
ing with the motion of the car
riage, the whites of her eyes rolling
in the frenzy of her conscious im
protace.”

Are You Living
In the
Cobweb Kingdom?
\
There are cobwebs on the windows,
There are cobwebs on the door,
There are cobwebs swinging, swaying
From the rafters to the floor.
Now the place Is Cobweb Kingdom,
Though it used to be a store.
If the Cobweb Kingdom's ruler
Were a man discreet and wise
He would have no cobwebs swaying.
Swinging round and catching flies;
He would orowd his store with buyer*—
He would simply ADVERTISE!
