Miss Mayo Kelly, of Southern
Pines, N. C., is visiting friends and
relatives in Winder.
Grover Woodruff, who is attend
ing school at Young Harris, spent
a few days this week with home
folks.
The minstrel performance Satur
day night was given liberal-patron
age and all present were pleased
with the production.

successful undertaking for all con

Mr. H. E. Edwards has accepted

Midland recently relinquished by

sume his new duties Monday.

Mr. J. If. Jackson had ope of his

A. M. Flanigan. A heavy beam
which was being hoisted slipped and
fell upon his foot. He is resting as
well as could he expected, but will
be confined to his room for several
weeks before bis injuries heal.
The Ladies’ Aid Society of the
Presbyterian church is preparing to
have an apron sale on Thursday ana
Friday, December 10-11. Besides
aprons the society will have a beau
tiful collection of articles suitable
for Christmas gifts. Any one wish
ing to give orders for any special ar
ticles can ha% r e them filled by noti
fying the president of the society.

friends and Relatives of Mrs. Susan
Lampkin Entertained at
Gainesville.
On October 13th, in the city of
Gainesville, at the lovely home of
Captain T. P. Martin, assembled a
very congenial party, the occasion
being the celebration of the eightieth
birthday of Mrs. Susan Lampkin,
the mother of Mrs. Martin. Aunt
Susan, as she is familiarly called,
doesn’t look to be more than sixty
years of age. Time has dealt gently
wit i her. Her life has been one of
loving service to her family and the
cause of our Lord and Master.
She is blessed in t hese her declin
ing years with the love and tender
can' °f her deyoted daughter with
whom she mattes her home.
To say the dinner on this occasion
was elegant doesn’t half express it.
The menu was most delicious and
elegantly served. Departing each
guest wished for Mrs. Lampkin
many returns of the happy occasion.

a raid on a crap game Sunday and
rounded up six negroes. The mayor
fined them $10.70j each Monday
night.

ests at this point, has tendered Ids
resignation to the road, and with his
family removed to Cowpens, S. C.,
where lie takes charge of a large
cotton mill- Mr. and Mrs Webster
made many friends during their
stay here who regret that a change
in business made it necessary for lie
and his estimable family to > leave
