GEORGIA TOWNS TO BE ON
THE MAP.
A matter of great interest to the
general public at this time is the
securing of landing fields for the
Air Service of the United States
Army. The securing of a good
landing field is a long stride to
ward getting aerial mail service,
soveted by Cities and towns
throughout the South.
Most people have a vague idea
as to the necessary requirements
of an aviation landing field, but
few outside the air service know
exactly what is essential.

city is in receipt of a communica
tion from the commanding officer,
Souther Field, Americus, Georgia,
giving the necessary qualifica
tions, which are as follows:.
Ist. The field must he at least
500 by 1000 feet in dimension,
with no onstaeles around the field,
such as tall trees, houses, tele
phone wires, etc.
2nd. There must he no rocks,
stumps, ditches, etc., on the field.
In case there are any stumps or
ditches, the stumps must he re
moved and the ditches filled in,
so as to give the surface a hard
smooth appearance.
rd. The field must he marked in
the following manner:
(a) A large white circle should
he placed in the center of the
field, with the first letter of the
name of the town printed in the
center of the circle. hTe circle
should lie from 12 to 15 feet in
diameter, and the letter large
enough to he readilyrecognizable
at a distance. This symbol indi
cates to the Pilot that he is at the
right field.
(h) The extremities of the field
should he marked by means of
four white squares, one at each
corner. This shows the pilot the
portion of the field in which you
wish him to make his landing,
and beyond which he knows there
is probable danger.
There are at present good land
ing fields at Athens, Columbus,
M aeon, Albany, Thomasville,
Wavcross and Americus, Georgia.
To he on the Air Map, a town
must have a good landing field.
TWO BANKS COUNTY BOYS
GO COURTING.
Mr. Morris Bellamy and another
young man went courting last
week. There were only one hitch
ing post so the “other young
man’’ told Morris to hitch to his
buggy wheel. Morris did so. When
the courting on the inside was
over the swains went out to get
their jar heads, and found tlie
hack end of the “other man’s”
buggy ate off, also a part of the
cushion gone. Moral: Never hitch
a mule to a buggy wheel nor pull
Ids tail unless you want to take
the elevator.—Banks Cos. Journal.
