PHILPOT-HOOD WEDDING AN
EVENT OF THE SEASON.
One of the most beautiful wed
dings of the season was that of
Miss Hortelle Hood to Mr. Thomas
Miller Philpot, Jr., of Augusta, at
the home of her parents, Mr. and
M rs. J. M. Hood on Prince aveune
this afternoon at 2:30 o’clock.
The entire lower floor of the
handsome home was thrown toge
ther and gorgeously decorated
with a profusion of exquisite ferns
roses and a variety of other spring
blossoms. A color scheme of pink
and white was carried out in the
dining room where an informal
reception was held after the cere
mony. *
The room in which the cere
mony was performed was artistic,
a color scheme of green and white,
an effective altar being arranged
with hanks of ferns and palms.
The bride was married in her
going away suit of champagne
baronette satin trimmed in elec
tric blue and wore a small toque
to match. She carried a handsome
bouquet of brides roses and swan
sonias. Her only attendant, Miss
Lucile Griffeth, who was maid of
honor was charming in a blue or
gandy, carrying a large bouquet
of pink roses. Mr. Fred Davis act
ed as best man.
The wedding march was played
by Mrs. Mac Potts of Winder. She
also sang very beautifully, “When
you are truly Mine,” accompanied
by Miss Katie Bell Miller on the
piano. Mrs. W. O. Perr # of AYinder
and Mrs. D. F. Miller of Athens
received at the door.
Immediately after the ceremony
which was performed by Dr. J. AY.
Lynch, an informal reception was
held. Pink ice-cream frozen in the
shape of slippers was served with
pink and white cake.
Aften the reception Air. and
Mrs. Philpot left on a wedding
trip which will include Atlantic
City and other points of interest
in the north. As Miss Hood, Airs.
Philpot was a most charming and
popular young lady in social cir
cles of Athens and other promi
nent cities where she has been a
popular visitor. She is a graduate
of the Athens High School and al
so of Brenau College where she
completed her education. She has
innumerable friends whom she
has won by her cordial charming
manner and who wish for her hap
piness and joy.
Mr. Philpot is well known in
Athens having been a student at
the University for several years
from where he graduated this
year, lie is a member of the Delta
Tan Delta Fraternity and is noted
throughout the colleges of the
south for his peerless baseball
career. His many friends here and
in Augusta as well as all over the
state extend to him their hearti
est congratulations and best wish

After their return Mr. and Mrs.
Philpot will make their home in
Midville, (la., where Mr. Philpot
be engaged in the cotton busi
ness.
Mrs. Philpot’s girlhood days
were mostly spent in Winder, her
father, Mr. J. M. Hood, having
heen one of our splendid citizens
until going to Athens a few years
ago. She is a granddaughter of
Mr. and Mrs. S. C. Potts of our
city and visited here often since
going to Athens.
The above marriage is copied
from the Athens Herald and will
be of much interest to many of
our people.
Meadow-Henson.
A wedding of much interest to
many people in this section of the
state was that of Miss Nellie Mea
dow, of Colbert, and Air. Carl M.
Henson, of AVinder, which occur
red Sunday afternoon at 4 o’clock
at the country home of the bride
near Colbert.
The decorative scheme of green
and white was used throughout
the house. The improvised altar
was banked with palms and ferns.
Miss Nanelyne Kinnebrew sang
“O Promise Ale,” accompanied by
Aliss Fariah Elliott. As Mendels
sohn’s AYedding Alarch was play
ed by Aliss Desma Elder, Aliss
Stella Aleadow, maid of honor,
came to the altar. The groom and
his best man, Air. C. AY. Henson,
were met at the altar by thebride
and her father, Air. B. 11. Aleadow,
who gave the bride away. The
ceremony was performed by Rev.
J. 11. Alashburn, during which the
“Flower Song” was played by
Aliss Desma Elder.
The bride wore a gownofwhite
satin and georgette and carried a
bouquet of bridal roses and swan
soria. The maid of honor was
gowned in white georgette and
carried a bouquet of white carna
tions.
Immediately after the ceremony
Air. and Airs. Henson left for an
extended tour of the east, which
will include Baltimore, Washing
ton, Philadelphia, Atlantic City,
New York, Niagara Falls, Toron
to and Cincinnatti.
The bride is a daughter of Air.
B. 11. Aleadow, of Oglethorpe
county, and she is a young woman
of personal charm, possessing
many noble traits of character and
Christian graces. The groom is a
member of*the wholesale firm of
Henson Brothers & Fulbright, of
this city and also traveling sales
man for J. K. Orr Shoe Cos. Atlan
ta, Ga., and he is a young man of
sterling worth, and one the most
popular Knights of the Grip in
Georgia.

Miss Alice Eugent Dunn Hostess.
On Alonday afternoon, Aliss
Alice Eugene Dunn entertained a
few' of her friends at a matinee
party, celebrating her thirteenth
birthday. After enjoying the pic
tures at the Strand, she invited
her guests to the City Drug Store,
where delightful refreshments
were served.

Young Matrons Club Give Picnic.
On Wednesday afternoon, the
Club gave a picnic on the lawn of
Mr. and Mrs. H. M. Rankin, in
honor of Mrs. James Walter Coop
er, who will leave Monday for her
future home in Decatur. The many
friends of Mr. and Mrs. Cooper re
gret to loose them from the social
life of Winder.

large number of her friends.
On last Friday afternoon at the
beautiful home of Air. and Airs. 11.
N. Rainey on broad street, Airs.
Rainey entertained a number of
her friends at a beautiful party,
in honor of her house guest, Airs.

The lower floor was thrown to
gether and beautifully decorated
in baskets of gladiolias, daisies,
sweet peas and dahlias. The hand
some silver punch bowl was em
beded in a nest of sweet peas and
was presided over by Alisses .Mat
tie Louise Rainey and Mary Quar
terman in the dining room.
Music was enjoyed during the
afternoon and after many interest
ing games of bunco,a delightful
salad course was served. Airs.

Miss Lona Reece Couch Entertains
Little Aliss Lona Reece Couch
was hostess to a number of her
little friends on Alonday afternoon
celebrating her sixth birthday.
The little girls and boys resem
bled faries over the lawn. Airs.

The second contest was to see
who could make the best animal
of putty, and Airs. H. AI. Rankin
was the most successful, and was
presented with a basket of peach
es. Later in the afternoon cream

Oconee County line brought us a
cotton bloom Tuesday, making the
fourth one this week. The 4th day
of July is generally considered an
early date for cotton blooms.

The Jolly ( Jil ls Club was enter
tained most pleasantly Saturday
afternoon by Misses Prulia and
Pauline Sims. Quite an intesesting
programe was carried out. Every
one was busy at work for an hour,
after which delicious ice tea, cake
and pickle were served hy the
hostess. The club now has 13
enthusiastic members, and are
planning many pleasant outings
throughout the summer.

was a visitor in Winder last week
