EROWN, COMM’R.
Atlanta, .July 30, (Special)—
The American Cotton Association,
organize* l after careful delibera
tion by a body of prominent far
mers and business men represent
ing all cotton states, will open an
active membership campaign with
the beginning of August, from At
lanta as headquarters, to cover
the entire cotton belt.
The campaign committee has
been named and is ready for busi
ness; a corps of expert organizers
has been employed, and plans for
an extensive publicity campaign
have been made. It is proposed to
complete the membership cam
paign within two months, or be
fore October 1, when it is antici
pated the vast majority of cotton
producers, merchants, bankers
and professional men throughout
the South, will have been enrolled.
For the first time in history it
looks as it' the fanners and cotton
producers of the south arc going
to have an organization through
whose activities they will he en
abled to price their own products,
instead of permitting that to he
done by Liverpool and New York.
The association’s purpose is to
give the producer tut agency
through which lie may he fairly
remunerated for the production
service he rentiers to society.
Membership dues will be on the
basis of 25-eents per bale of cotton
produced, for the grower, and 25-
cents per SI,OOO of capital invest
ed for merchants, bankers and
others; while a large number of
life memberships will be sold at
SIOO.
The association itself will be
chartered; an' l , following the
membership campaign, it is pro
posed to organize another and
allied corporation, with a large
capital stock for the purpose of
taking care of “distress” cotton,

Keeping Warm in Finland.
In many ways the Finns are a very
queer people. It is during the terrible
cold months that the Finns revel In
the might} ovens that fill one corner
of every kitchen and often loom up
large and vastly Impressive In the oth
er rooms of a Finn home as well. The
tops of these monster stoves are per
fectly fiat, and steps lead up on one
side. \\>en fhe weather becomes bit
terly cold and bleak, the entire Finnish
family will take quilts and pillows and,
mounting to the top of the big heat
er, spread down their bedding and
sleep very comfortably and contented
ly on the hard hot bricks until morn
ing.—Nevia C. Winter, in Christian
