SUPPOSE.
Suppose, my little lady.
, our doll should break her head
Could you make it yhole by crying
k Till your.eves and nose were red
And wouldn’t it be pleasanter
' To treat it as a joke.
And say you’re glad ’twas dolly's.
And not your bead that broke?
Suppose you’re dressed for a walk
And the rain comes pouring
jldown;
Will it clear off any sooner
Because you scold and frown?
And wouldn’t it be nicer
For you to smile than pout,
And so make sunshine in the house
When there is none without?
Suppose your task, my little
man.
Is very hard to get;
Will it make it any easier
For you to sit and fret ?
And youldn’t it be wiser,
Than waiting like a dunce,
To go to work in earnest
And learn the thiag at once?
Suppose that some boys have a
horse.
And some a coach and pair;
"Will it tire you less while walking
To say “It isn’t fair?”
And wouldn’t it be nobler
To keep your temper sweet,
And in your heart he thankful
You can walk upon your feet?
Suppose the world don’t please
you,
Nor the way some people do;
Do you think tiie whole creation
Will be altered just fur you?
And isn’t it, my boy or girl,
The wisest, bravest plan.
Whatever comes, or doesn’t come,
• To do the best you can?

A THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK.
What is the best story that has
come to us out of the war as re
vealing tlie true spirit of the
Ajnerican fighting man? It ap
pears to us that this one. as told by
Newell Dwight Hillis, more nearly
.fulfills the conditions: After a
German attack, an American boy
V.dio came back to our own lines
discovered that bis pal. with whom
lie had fought side by side, was
missing, and inime diately asked
permission to go back over the
field and get him. His officer ad
vised him not to go, and said: “If
you do, it will not be worth while.
Go at your risk, but it wall cost
you your life.” The boy went out,
found his pal badly wounded, and
brought him back near our line,
when his pal died. He himself was
then shot. Dying, he crawled back
within the lirfe. The officer, leaning
over him just before he died, said:
“I told you you would lose your
life. Was it worth while? “Yes,
sir,” replied the dying soldier.
“He said he knew I would come.”

“He beeame a member of a loc
al debating society which regular
ly had set battles on all kinds of
topics—political, literary and soc
ial.” So says Frank Dilnot ia lus
life of David Lloyd George, Prime
Minister of Great Britain. And it
is largely to this debating-society
training that Mr. Dilnot attributes
the oratorical skill so early dis
played by the world-famous Eng
lish statesman. Progressive Far
mer boys and girls will do well to
take notice. A debating society
can be organized in almost any
community wire re somebody has
enough initiative to take the lead
in getting the young people toge
ther. Such a society will not only
train speakers hut it will do a
great deal to educate both partici
pants and hearers.— Progressive

Crashes into sour bile, making
you sick and you lose
a day’s work.
Calomel salivates! It’s mercury.
Calomel acts like dynamite on a
sluggish liver. When calomel comes
into contact with sour bile it crashes
into it, causing cramping and nausea.
If you feel bilious, headachy con
stipated and all knocked out,, just go
to your druggist and get a bottle of
Dodson’s Liver Tone for a dew cents,
which is a harmless vegetable sub
stitute for dangerous calomel. Take
a spoonful and if k doesn’t start
your liver and straighten you up
better and quicker than nasty calomel
and without making you sick, you
just go back aud get your money.
If you take calomel today you’ll be
sick and nauseated tomorrow; be
sides, it may salivate you, whiLe if
you take Dodson’s Liver Tone you
will wake up feeling great, full of
ambition and ready for work or play.
It is harmless, pleasant and safe to
