FARMERS MUST FIGHT FOR
FAIR PRICES.
There is niueli complaint rela
tive to the high cost of living in
towns and cities. AN age earners
and salaried men complain of the
high cost of living while they live
high and insist upon an income
which will enable them to support
their families in idleness. These
town and city men work eight
hours a day for five and a halt
<hivs in the week and complain ot
Ihe high price <>t iarm products hy
the farmer and his family working
about twelve hours per day. The
farmer and his family toil long
hours and know little ot the com
forts and conveniences enjoyed by
the town and city mans iamily,
and seldom complain.
The world seems to begrudge
the farmer a decent living, lie sells
for 35 cents a pound of cotton
which is manufactured into cotton
goods that sells for +5 or more, lie
gets about $7.50 for the wheat
which goes into a barrel ot flour
1 hilt retails for about S3O when
made into loav es ot bread. r I he lo
ering of the price of cotton and
wheat and other larm products
will have very little effect upon
the retail price of the finished
product to the consumer, as the
cost of the raw material is usually
a small item in the final cost of
1 lie things we buy.
However, price or no price,
there is no reason why the farmer
and his family should toil long
hours to grow food for idle town
and city families. The farm woman
cans, sews and washes for all the
family, and besides raises chick
ens. milks the cows and cultivates
the garden. Farm children go to
school from four to six or seven
months in the year, work around
the home during the nights and
mornings and for long hours ev
ery day during the long summer
days. The town and city women
refuse to move out into the sub
urbs ami attend to gardens, chick
ens, cows fruit trees and so on.

INTEREST ON BONDS FOR
WAR SAVINGS STAMPS.
Re-investment of Third Liberty
Loan Pond interest in Thrift and
War Savings Stamps is urged nit
on the citizens of Winder hy May
or Maynard. The (Government will
make a semi-annual payment of
interest on Third Liberty Loan
Bonds on September 15th, at
which time the vast amount of $2,-
925,050.81 will be turned over to
the investors in the Sixth Federal
Reserve District.
“Thousands of our citizens own
Third Liberty Loan Bonds, as this
was the most popular of all,” the
Mayor said. “The Treasury De
partment has urged all to take
this interest money and re-invest
it in Thrift and War Savings
Stamps. By this means they can
turn their interest into more inter
est ; they can make their dollars do
double duty. 1 trust that our citi
zens w ho own Third Liberty Loan
Bonds will do as the Treasury De
partment requests.
“Liberty Loan interest Coupons
may be exchanged for Thrift and
War Savings Stamps at the post
office, banks, and W. S. S. Agen
cies. A sufficient supply of these
government securities is on hand
to exchange for your coupons.
War Savings Stamps are always
redeemable at the post office on
ten days’ written notice. I appeal
to our citizens who own Third Lib
erty Loan Bonds to get Thrift and
War Savings Stamps for their in
terest coupons on September 15th.
“Our neighboring cities are
planning to work up a large total
in War Savings Stamps on Sept
ember 15th. and to do so largely
through their interest coupons.
We have too much civic pride to
do less than our neighboring cities.
Let’s get busy and make Winder
lead the procession.”
