It is a lamentable fivcf, never the 1 osp
ttnp, that the Jackson Cemetery is a
disgrace (ft a civilized community. It
is sai<] some of our citizens who have
relatives buried, near and dear# h '<■
never hepn there since they laid their
bosom companion in the tomb. O'

a difficult matter to locate some of the

‘ Angels amt I.iuht’’
M ere the last words of Mrs. Ilefiin,
wile of our esteemed citizen and depot
agent, Mr. W. T. Heflin, who breath
ed her last yesterday at twenty min
utes past 11 o'clock. She was taken
violently ill only two or three days
before her death, with fever and intia
mat ion of the bowels and stomach.
Mrs. Heflin’s sojourn in our midst
was hut a few weeks duration, during
which time she made many acquaint
ances and was beloved by all who knew
her. H e doubt if any person made so
favorable an impression, in so short a
time, as did this Christian lady amdng
those of her acquaintance in Jackson.
From intense sufferings her spirit lias
found rest. She was a devout Chris
tian. She. was charitable and kind to
the poor. Soon after her identification
with the people of Jackson, she was
instrumental in organizing a society
among the ladies, known ns the “ I.a -
die’s Mutual Aid Soeienty,” for the
purpose of raising funds fora good
and noble purpose, w hich has just be
come thoroughly organized, of which
she was vice president. Few so young
and gay as she was, being in her L’lst
year, seldom take an important part
and manifest so deep an interest in the
welfare of their friends and the
cause of Christianity. None ever pass
ed more humbly beneath the rod, or
looked up with greater faith to Him—
who doth not willingly afflict or
grieve.” Few of us in the midst of
great affliction can find grace to say we
rejoice in our suffering, in that we be
lieve we have been brought to know
Him—“whome to know is life eternal,”
ainl it should comfort, beyond all oth
er comforts, those who grieve for the
patieut'sufferer, now at rest, that she
did entirely bow to the will of God, and
that as long as she had strength of
mind and body to do so, she strove to
win others to the Master whome she
served, and in whome she found peace
in believing. Such is said of Mrs.
Heflin.
For only 11 months she shared tlm
joys of a devoted husband, and mu
tually divided their sorrows.
God bless and comfort her grief
stricken husband, and bereaved rela
tives.
Her remains will be carried to At
lanta to-day, her former home, for in
terment in Oakland Cemetery. The
deceased is the daughter of Mrs. Oz-
Imrn, and a neiee of Mi's. Miinj'um ot
Atlanta.
J. L. Wagner can now he found at
his new shop, rear of Masonic Hall,
lie is prepared to do any kind of work
in the tin line.
Owing, we presume tn the enelemerit
weather, Mr Boswortli failed to tut
lill an engagement to address tbe peo
ple at- Cedar Rock the other day. We
learn the time was filled with appro
priate speeches from Messrs II . IV Cur
ry, J. M. McMichael and Dr. Mays.

On Wednesday night last little Porter,
son ot Mr., and Mrs. David N. Carmi
