To the Mayor and Council of

do not mean to be considered
as wanting to hinder the pro

future prosperity of the town,
and as Tax payers we feel
that we are entitled to the in
formation we arc seeking,
we assure you that a great
many of Jackson’s tax payers
are very anxious for y ;he infor

a fancy theory that our city
government is based on the
proposition ‘*of the people,
for the people and by the

least, you should give the cit

SPICY LETTER FROM
MR. J. 0. COLE.
Ed Jacksonian : I wish to say a
few words in regard to report on W.
Thomas Cawthou befor the Grand
Jury last woek. The young man who
doss business here at my store,
and who is boarding with me.
To begin with I want to say that
we have more respect for our wives
a id mothers and neighbors wives than
to allow whiskey sold at our front
door, and I want to say that I did not
build the bouse for that’purpose. and
furthermore I want to say that I nev
er saw Mr. Cawthon take a drink,
much less sell any; and right here I
want to give this the black lie, one of
the blackest’that has ever been re
ported from Iron Spring district.
And even our dear neighbors were ut
terly suprised at such reports, and
also the witnesses wers surprised at
being brought ud before the Grnad
Jury against Mr Cawthon when they
knew he never sold a drop.
I first thought it was some old Hy
pocrytical sister and then we thought
it some crazy mao and than we didn’t
know who it was. We tMuk that
the Or and Jury would do mors good
■mrehing for this crazy paraen who la
loosa in our ceaimßDity, than they
would hunting this an called blind
tiger, for tbia man is dangerous he
might steal something or bite some
body. We think each a man ie a
shame on |tbe community, nod we
are sure that tha good people of our
community io ashamed of the report
er, and if ai>oma would eouae the buz
zrds to peek him they would
eot bias up before sub down.
If you have anything agalnat a mao
go to him before yau go to tha Qrand
J ury and fiad out whether you or# re
p irtiug a man that aaada reporting or
not. I think after this yau ought to
oomo to the front and be a man or a
woman which ever tha case maybe
and not go aronnd reporting peoplo to
tho Qrand Jury through lotters who
never THOUGHT of selling a drop of
whiskey much less sell any,
The report to the Grand Jury was
through a Utter and It read some
thing like this:
“There is a blind tiger in our com
munity run by Tom Cawthon at tho
old Barber place that needs to be at
tended to.” And also said that they
would give the namee of the people
who patronize It. Firat they give
the advancement of the times
we have stood for the bond is
sues already made but we do
not feel that we can go further
in the dark and being a
mong those who are thinking
and looking forward for the
best interest of Jackson we re
spectfully submit that we de
sire some information on the
subject before we can consent
to go further with you* This
informotion had we may yet
be with you for an addiaional
bona issue for $10,000.00.
What we want to know is
this:

the City realize from the sale
of “Water Bonds?”

ha doea not allow such a thing as that
to go on in his community with out
him knowing something of it, and he
says he was shocked with aurpzlso
when the Grand Jury ask him about

a man who nerer tasted a drop of
whiskey never bought or seen a drop

We understand from the way tha
report went in that the reporter needs
to be tried for Insanity.
The Grand Jury did netrespeettks

I fell that I ought to tako aoma ex
