Pull for Jackson or pull out. Bonds or not? Oh for a mosquitorless country A small bond issue is good for good roads. Greater Jackson continues to grow greater. What say you for bonds and good roads? Pull for Jackson or pull out. There is a faint, mild and un ruffled rumor to the effect that Jasper county is solving the race problem. The real equator will be discov ered when Mrs. Cook and Mrs. Peary meet. There will be noth ing near to this discovery. The tales of prosperity coming from Kansas find a parallel here in glorious Georgia where old prosperity is smiling his sweetest. With new buildings, new stores and anew depot and a handsome monument Jackson is forging to the front at a wonderful rate. Unless the north pole can be turned into a summer resort we see no reason for discovering the thing after it had been hidden so long. Macon is about ready for the biggest state fair in her his tory. The pity of it is that Butts county will not have an exhibit at this state fair. No Mary Jane, there will be no melancholly days if you have the Jackson spirit and are doing your duty by your town and county. Our own public roads is the place for our convicts. With a small bond issue to get the sys tem started the road problem in Butts county will be solved. The Old Guard will capture the classic city of Athens next week when the annual reunion of the U. C. V. will be held. Butts county will send up a strong del egation. You just have got to admit that Butts county real estate is ahead of anything in the country. Where else in the state does country land sell for one hundred dollars an acre? The mayors of the country will gather in St. Louis next month and there on the banks of the turgid and turbulent Mississippi all questions of municipal govern ment will be discussed. “You will fall in love with Ma con," says The Telegraph, it can’f be a case of love at first sight and maybe The Telegraph is mistaken and it is doubtless a case of Platonic friendship. The Macon Telegraph is now engaged in taking testimony on the horned snake. The opinion of a dry climate is that some of those who say they have seen horned snakes have been mixing brands. Admitting that Jackson is growing, and everybody must ad mit it the question arises how to keep it going. By securing new enterprises, new factories and more live farmers in Butts county. Jackson has started a fight for anew and modern depot. The Southern railroad wants to remod el the old depot and build spur track, but the citizens over there want a dew station outright, and the railroad commission may be called upon to settle the matter. Griffin needs a passenger station and it is high time somebody here was startihg a fight to secure one.—Griffin News and Sun. If Butts county wants to get in line with the rest of the state she must have a small bond issue j and a chaingang. It is the one way to settle the road problem fairly, honestly, equita bly and for all time. At the present rate the majori ty of the cotton crop will be out and perhaps sold. The weather of the last few days has damaged the crop considerably but as usu al the famous cotton of Butts county is at a premium. The Butts County Progress is one of the neatest printed week lies that comes to our office. It is well made up from the first to the last page, and a great saying of tne editor is: “Pull for Jack son or pull out.” Pretty good dope! —Griffin Herald. Evidently the merchants of two small Georgia towns, viz: Jackson and Lyons, believe in printers’ ink. There is never a week but what both of these places have their local papers filled brimful of advertisments. And they have good papers too.—Griffin Herald. The Hon. Joe Hill Hall has an nounced his intention of retiring from the legislature at the ex piration of his present term. It will never do. * He is the life of the general assembly and there is a work for him to do. The old war horse of Bibb must be kept in harness. At last the Jackson Daughters of the Confederacy have seen the way clear to erect a monument to the Confederate soldiers of Butts county. They are entitled to the thanks of the people of the whole county and everybody is expected to give them loyal and unanimous support in this move ment The Eatonton News has made its appearance with Editor W. J. Vaughn lately of the Middle Geor gia Farmer at Griffin at the helm. The paper has all the earmarks of a live, hustling sheet. This man Vaughn is one Of the best newspaper men in' the state and the only regret is that there are not more like him. With a bond issue of twenty thousand dollars to be retired in twenty years Butts county could work her convicts, get all the e quipment necessary and when once started the chaingang can be maintained with the present revenue. This business of spend ing vast sums to convict criminals and then let other counties receive the benefit of their work, is all wrong. Let us have bonds. Smith had secured in Flovilla a subscrip tion of four thousand dollars and offered it to the college committee guaranteeing its collection, and that through the influence of Brother Wiggins the sub-com mittee of Jackson had been kept from securing one nickel from Jackson we were disappoined and mortified. And now that Brother Wiggins has given us through your col umns a lot of “rot," explaining why he did it, and a lot of ridi cule of Brother Smith, we feel that he has not only done the people a great injustice, but has offered an insult to the intelli gence c-f Butts county.
