Keep up your advertising and your advertising will keep you. Peary found to his surprise that there is one north pole up around Atlanta. Unmistakable signs of the hook worm have been noticed during the last few days, Halley’s comet has one disad vantage-it hasn’t a press repre sentative like Teddy. Memorial Day in Jackson will be one of the biggest days in the history of the county. It will soon be all over with the candidates but the shouting—and the weeping and wailing. The hammer and saw are fur nishing the music for Jackson’s industrial march these days. Many of the citizens are inter ested in anew school building for Jackson and are beginning to talk it. Business life is a game and the men who succeed are those that watch the game the closest —and advertise. The warm days stirs up a fel low’s baseball fever and he longs to see the ball clouted to the four corners of the lot. What is the matter with the movement to have a Civic Im provement Club—a city Beauti ful, clean and healthy? Clarke and Tattnall counties are in court over who shall work the latter’s convicts. If something big turns loose in Butts county it will be due to the efforts of the boosters and pull ers. Knockers never built up anything. They are all talking about .Jack son, from Pennsylvania to Texas. Something big will break loose after awhile. Keep your eye on Jackson. When the people of Griffin want to see a pretty and pro gressive City they come to Jack son; when they want a day off to rest they remain at home. Butts county is going forward by leaps and bounds. What would she do if she had roads? We want to see what she would do with convicts and good roads. When the bankers of this group come to Indian Springs the Jack son Clearing House Association will give them a good time. You can’t surpass middle Georgia hos pitality. From reliable information it sterns that farmers in Butts i unty are planting large grain an 1 food crops this vear. The cay to solve the high cost of liv ing, is by living at home. This is going to be a good year, judging from the most reliable information obtainable. It will be a good year in Butts county if our farmers carry out their pro gram of plenty of food crops. Are you a citizen and are you proud of it? You are not a citi zen if you fail to register. You will be disfranchised completely and effectively if you do not reg ister before the sth of April. There cannot be too much stress laid upon the importance of registering. We w'ould dislike very much to see any of our good citizens disfranchised by failure to put their names on the regis tration books. So far as heard Butts county is having a clean campaign. This is the way to go about it. After the election the candidates will have to live together as neighbors and they had as well be friendly about it all, and if defeated take the result good naturedly. A pardon has been asked for the Rawlings boys. There is doubt in the minds of many that they should have ever been pun ished. It is certain they were tools in the hands of their father, who paid the penalty for his crime on the gallows. At last the supreme court has rendered a decision in the Mc- Lendon case, sustaining the ac tion of former governor Hoke Smith, and reversing the supe rior court of Chatham county. The decision is of much interest throughout the state and may figure in future politics. The good citizen is described as follows by an exchange: "A good citizen is a man who takes pride in his home town and pays his honest debts, speaks well of his neighbors and friends, takes his home paper and pays for it, who doesn’t squeeze every twen ty-five cent piece until the screams of the eagle can be heard a mile away. He will measure twelve inches to the foot every way; will bathe and change his shirt at least once a week, and will see that the woman he loves doesn’t have to use the fence for a clothes line or break up old flour barrels and dry goods boxes for fuel.” The one Sam Jones told on Griffin still sticks. Some years ago the great evangelist went to Griffin to conduct a revival. The first night he was greeted by a large crowd; the second night, the attendance was smaller and the third night the crowd had dwindled perceptibly and alarm ingly, while on the fourth night there was no orowd at all. Whereupon Mr. Jones remarked that Griffin was as near h 1 as he wanted to be. This is re spectfully referred to Editor Glessner, the handsome and pol ished bachelor editor of the News and Sun. If this part'of the state and Butts county particularly does not witness the greatest develop ment in years there will be some badly fooled people.
