In this announcement I will not un dertake to incorporate my entire plat form, but cannot refrain from saying that as a member of Congress 1 would strenuously oppose ull extravagant ex t penditure of the jieoples money and all nnnecessary and burdensome taxation, and every effort made to encroach up •n “states rights” and would stand un flinchingly and unfalteringly against all laws in conflict with the principle “Equal rights for all and special privi leges to none.” I believe that this should be in reali ty as it is in theory a government of the people, by the people and FOR the people. As your representative I would de vote to theduties of my office my time, my energy and whatever of talent I have and requests from any citizen of the District however humble he might lx*, would receive prom [it and careful attention. If elected I will enter upon the dis charge of my duties without pledge or promise to any man or set of men but absolutely free and independent to do my full duty as (Jod gives me the light to see it. I believe that my record as a Repre sentative, of which i invite the closest scrutiny, justifies me in saying that I have discharged every duty and obli gation to the people who have honored me with that high and responsible of fice. During the entire period of my service in the House, 1 have been faced by a Republican majority, strongly ad verse in sentiment and policy to the lK'st interests of the people of my sec tion, but my record here will demon strate that in every word I have spoken and in every vote 1 have east, I have had an eye single to the honor and welfare of the people 1 represent. Whether my duty as a Representative lias called me to resist the insidious at tempts that are being constantly made to undermine the sovereign dignity of the States, tooppose the encroachments of organized monopoly upon the rights and substance of the people, or to de fend the institutions and glorious tradi tions of our own section, 1 have re sponded to that call with all the force and vigor of my living. As the Repre sentative of a free people, 1 have de nounced tyranny in whatever form it has appeared, and actively participa ted in the movement to wrest the con trol of the House from the arrogant despotism that has been erected in the people’s forum by the Speaker and his Committee on Rules. My record in this and all other matters will most conclusively show that 1 have never on any occasion faltered or hesitated in the course of duty dictated by perfect loyalty to my constituents and party. Relieving that my long experience will enable me to serve more eflieient ly the people of the District in the next House, which, from all indica tions, will Lie Democratic, and with grateful appreciation of their support and oontidence in the past, l ask a rc nomination at the hands of my con stituency. Mrs. Brewton left Tuesday for her home in Bainbridge after a few days’ stay at Hotel Millen. Mr. Eugene Benton, of Monti cello, was registered at Hotel Millen Sunday. Miss Ollie Millen entertained a congenial party of young people Friday evening at her home on Main street. Mrs. R. H. Henderson and little ones who have been with her sis ter, Mrs. Maggie Maddux, for two weeks have returned home. Mr. Bascal B. McElhenny, one of Monticello’s most popular young men, spent Sunday here. Miss Lucile Elder returned home Tuesday after a delightful visit to friends in Jackson and Covington. She left Wednesday for a week’s stay with relatives in Atlanta. Mrs. Lucy Douglas Dozier and Miss Mariamne Dozier have re turned from a visit to friends in Atlanta. Mrs. Seney Duffey and daugh ter, Miss Mattie, visited Jackson Tuesday. Misses Nellie Scott Millen and Eunice Bryant visited Miss Ma mie Kate Watson in Jackson re cently. Miss Susie Etheridge, of Indian Spring, was the guest of Miss Al ice G. Smith Sunday. Mr. J. Parks Terrell and little sister, Marilu, left Tuesday for Nashville, Tenn., where they will make a short visit to their sister. Miss Willie Terrell, who is a pupil of the M. E. training school there. Later they -will vis it relatives in St. Lou:?. Mr. K. L. Allen made a busi ness trip to Atlanta Monday and while thore purchased a shetlond pmy which is delighting his lit tle tots as well as their many ft ionds. Mr. Lovick Ball returned to his home in Atlanta after a week end visit to Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Heard. Miss John Porter Torbett, of Cork, is the guest of Mrs. Seney Torbett this week.
