Jackson is the coming city in middle Georgia. Watch her grow. No place has anything on Jack son when it comes to enterprise. Keep Jackson in the limelight. Let us have something doing all the time. For the thirteenth time we rise to ask what has become ot the new depot? How did you like the decora tions the merchants gave us lor Chautauqua veek? In this day of high prices the railroads are about the only things advertising low rates. Real estate values in Butts county are keeping up with the high prices all over the country. Butts county is coming to the front as a wheat growing coun ty. This is a step in the right direction. Usually the $75.00 a month man falls in love with the $50.00 hat girl.—Eiberton Star. Then the dickens is to pay. Glorious Griffin may be a great place but she hasn’t private tele phone exchanges in her depart ment stores like Jackson has. Now for a safe and sane Fourth of July. But we can have that and also have something doing in the way of a big celebration. Maybe the people of Jackson had the necessity of a large new hotel forced lipon them this week while so many visitors were in the city. Brown has announced for gov ernor, Broughton will stay in At lanta, the comet has gone. Teddy will soon be home, it still rains. Why ask the news? This is a good year for Butts county to have an exhibit at the state fair. Why not let the world know our wonderful agri cultural possibilities? It is the fel low who thinks the roads, streets and world belong to him that will get his at the hands of the law makers, Dalton and Valdosta have raised the salaries of their teach ers. We hope the teachers have also raised their efficiency. The school teachers as a rule are un derpaid but some of them deserve no pay at all. On the Mississippi river a little way from St. Louis a dam will be built that will generate 200,000 electric horse cower. We thought the Central Georgia Power Com pany’s dam was some pumpkins but that Mississippi river propo sition will have us “dammed” to a frazzle. The Monroe Advertiser has a grouch because Congressman Bartlett does not subscribe for that paper. This is certainly a lofty and dignified fault to find with Mr. Bartlett. The Adver tiser is also the paper that wouldnt help advertise our chautauqua without pay for it. It is a good thing that nobody takes the pa per sei iousjy. Benefits Of Chautauquas. Measured by all the well known standards Jackson’s,big chautau qua has been an undisputed suc cess. It could have been a great er money maker, but it was never intended for that. In the interest aroused, the educational awakening, the uniting of the people of the county and town, the chautauqua more than ac complished its purpose. * To begin with, the chautauqua had strong features. It is a rare thing that such an array of talent is obtained for one week. It is a large part of an education lo hear men like Bishop Candler and Hon. Hoke Smith. The regu lar talent measured up to the fullest expectations of the pro moters and a large and appre ciative audiences. It is easy to believe that the good done will not be soon forgotten. The business men of the city lined up for the movement in splendid style. In fact they were brought closer together than they have been before in along while. That in itself is no small matter. It is earnestly hoped the people of Jackson have had forcibly im pressed upon them what can be accomplised by pulling and work ing together. Not a bicker, not a murmer of discontent was heard and all the people pulled together all the time. This is a good illustration of Jackson spirit as it ought to be. This is a day of education. A chautauqua is nothing more nor less than the bringing together of talent that uplifts, elevates and makes better while it instructs, amuses and entertains. A high class entertainment is education of the best kind. Now that the enterprise turned out so well let us resolve to make the chautauqua an annual affair. Anything that will bring the peo ple of the town and county closer together, anything that will arouse the desire for an educa tion is a good thing.
