Picnic For Visitors One of the most enjoyable pic nics of the summer season wa given Monday evening at Indian Springs by Mrs. R. P. Newton and Misses Mary and Rosa New ton for their charming guest, Miss Katie Sueßrewster, of New nan. The ride to and from the Springs was a pleasant feature and shortly after the arrival a most sumptuous picnic lunch was spread in the casino. Later in the evening various games, danc ing and bowling were indulged in. There were about thirty-five id the party and the chaperones were Mr. and Mrs. R. P. New ton, Mr. and Mrs. Homer Car michael, Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Watkins, Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Nutt. Miss Hodges Hostess Last evening Miss Leila Hod ges entertained, informally, a congenial party of young people at the home of Mr. and Mrs. R. N. Etheridge. The game of “42” was played vigorously and a dain ty ice course was served. Among the guests were Misses Minnie Bailey, Annie Crawford, Viola Slaughter, Jane Ham, Nina Har ris, Messrs H. D. Moore, J*. J. Willingham, G. F. Harley, Sas nett Crum, Lamar Etheridge, Thoj nton Buchanan. To Meet Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Ham Miss Annie Kate Ham enter tained delightfully Friday even ing for Mr. and Mrs. James Wil bur Ham, of Cartersville, who were recently married in that city. Tee house was decorated in an attractive manner for the occasion. The calling hours were between eight and ten o’clock when punch and a dainty course of refreshments were served the guests. For Visiting Girls Miss Naidine Leach entertained at a iovelv party Wednesday moraine for Miss M ary Russell, of M< D hough," and Miss Ml ud Pound, of JNashvnle, two attrac tive visitors in the city. Bunco was played at tables arranged on the spacious porches and Miss Sarah Smith won first prize, a piece of lingerie and Miss Doris Nutt the booby, a set of dice. The guests of honor were given pretty lace handkerchiefs. Miss Bessie Mitchell served punch and Mrs. J. M. Leach and Mrs. W. L. Nutt served a delicious salad course and iced tea. This clever young hostess always entertains in a bright and happy manner and this affair was no exception Cooking Demonstration Numbers of ladies called this week at the store of the Jackson Hardware Company where they had been invited to the cooking demonstration. Hot coffee and biscuits were servrd the callers who were given a pretty souve nir. This store is one of the most modern in the South and the managers always inaugurate bright and catchy contrivances with which they show their wares to good advantage. SOCIETY Flower Party A delightful party for the young society contingent vas that of Tuesday evening when Miss Ada Belle Johnson entertained at a Flower Party. The halls, par lors dining-room were decorated in white and pink roses, this col or sheme being carried out in o ther details. A Flower contest was provided and Miss Lora Ed wards captured the first prize. Cream and cake was served about thirty guests who spent the ev ening most pleasantly at this hos pitable home. For Miss Mary Lane An enjoyable event of the week was the partv given yesterday afternoon by Miss Sarah Smith at the lovely home of her parents on McDonough street for Miss Mary Lane, of Macon, who is vis iting her grandmother, Mrs. Ja nie McKibben. The home pre sented an unusually inviting ap pearance and Mis. Smith and Miss Hattie Buttrill looked after the pleasure of the young guests. After many many games were played ices and cakes were serv ed. Moore*Weaver Mrs. Belle Moore and Mr. L. H. Weaver were married Monday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock at the home of Mr. Oscar Weaver, the ceremony being performed by Rev. Tom Vaughn. Wilson spent Tuesday in the Gate City. Miss Cleo Carmichael is at home from Clayton and Atlanta. Mrs. Davis, of Quincy, Fla., is visiting Mrs. T. M. Furlow. Rev. S. P. Wiggins, of Milled geville, was in the city this week. Dr. T. J. Simmons of Brenau College was in the city Wednes day. Mrs. Grimsley, of Cochran, was the guest of relatives here Tues day. Rev. J. H. Eakes, of Griffin, was a visitor to the city Wednes day. Mr. Joe Watson is here from Michigan for a visit to his par ents. Mrs. M. A. Coleman, of Coch '-ran, is the guest of Mrs. W. J. ;Wood. I Mr. A. H. Smith and Harold Mallet left Wednesday for New York. Miss Viola Slaugher left this morning for a visit to friends in Sparks. Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Ham have returned to their home in Car tersville. Captain L. D. Watson’s friends are glad to know that he is im proving. Miss Emma McCord leaves to dap for Cochran to visit Miss Jes sie Myers. Miss Katie Sue Brewster re turned yesterday to her home in Newnan. Mrs. J. D. McCullough and lit tle son are visiting relatives in Flippen. Messrs T. W. Ham and Joel Mallet spent Wednesday in the Gate Citv. Mrs. W, H. Felton, of Carters ville, favored this county with a visit Friday. Mrs. Charles McCord and chil dren are visiting Mr. and Mrs. J. W. McCord. Mr. Harry Stephens, of Mari etta, is visiting his sister. Mrs. C. W. Springer. Mr. J. W. Curry has returned to Tifton after spending a few days in the city. Mr. and Mrs. A. F. Whitney, of Atlanta, were recent guests of relatives here. Mr. and Mrs. Percy Ezell of Eatonton were recent guests of Mrs. E. E. Pound. Rev. W. M. Lanier, of Guy ton, is the guest of Prof, and Mrs. W. R. Lanier. Miss Ernestine Dempsey is in Nashville the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Dempsey. Mrs. L. M. Crawford has re turned from Indian Spring where she has been visiting. Miss Annie Pullen, of Spalding county, is visiting her cousin, Mrs. J. B. Carmichael. Mrs. Emily Bryans and Mrs. Bessie Bryans, of Indian Springs spent Wednesday in the city. Miss Maud Pound and Master Ely Pound left Wednesday for their home in Nashville. Mrs. Paul Baker and little son, of Atlanta, will visit Mr. and Mrs S. 0. Ham next week. Dr. Robert VanDeventer is spending several weeks at the Blue Ridge assembly grounds. Miss Jane Stanfield’s friends will be glad to know that she is improving from her recent illness. Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Perry will have rooms with Mr. and Mrs. M. R. Johnson after this week. Mr. Will Willirigham, of At lanta, spent the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. Homer Carmichael. Misses Eloise Pound and Myr tle Harris are expected home tomorrow from a pleasure trip East. Miss Julia Ezell and Robert have returned from Monticello where they have been visiting relatives. Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Etheridge announce the birth of a son at the home of Mrs. Etheridge’s parents in Perry. Mrs. Annie Webb’s hosts of friends will be sorry to know that she will move to Atlanta about the first of September to reside permanently. Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Bkdsoe will move to the country next week and Mrs. Emily Jinks will occupy their home on Indian Springs street. Miss Rosalie Carmichael is in Nashville, the guest of her sister Mrs. Jack Dempsey. THREATT MOORE, Who made great race and won by a handsome majority COL 0, M. DUKE SUFFERS THE DEATH OF HIS FATHER His friends everywhere sym pathize deeply with Col. 0 M. Duke in the death of his father, Mr. T. M. Duke, which occurred in Atlanta Wednesday afternoon. Death wis due to cancer and was not unexp >cted. Mr. Duke, who was a gallant Confederate veteran, leaves a wife and four children. The fu neral took place at the burying ground in Jasper county. Mr. Duke was 62 years of age. Governor-Elect Hoke Smith CAMP MEETING CLOSED LAST SUNDAY NIGHT In point of numbers and in in terest shown the camp meeting which closed Sunday night was declared to have been the best in the memory of the association. The preaching was done by Rev. Mr. Dunaway and Rev. Mr. Huff, while the singing was led by Charlie D. Tillman, of Atlan ta. The tabernacle was well fill ed at every service. The question of enlarging the tabernacle to take care of the an nually increasing numbers who attend the camp meeting, is now being considered.
