Griffin, to the west of Jackson, is delighted that this is circus season. In the busy season don’t forget to pull for Jackson and Butts county. This is the ideal convention sea son and ajnumber o/them are be ing held. Jim Woodward failed to come back and was snowed under by a big vote. The stote fair opened in Macon Wednesday and will be open for ten days. How about Jackson’s future? What are you doing for your town and county? The cotton crop is not going to be so short after all when the re ceipts are all in. The Sixth District Medical Society will meet in Macon on the 9 of November. Thanksgiving and turkey, pos sum and later and ’simmon beer. Surelv this is God’s country. Macon recently held a booster week and now you can get the real Macon spirits at the fair. LaGrange is to have her sev enth cotton mill, according to a news story sent out from there. Until some other county beats her Butts holds the record as the banner corn producer in the state. The national election comes on November 8. Every one who possibly can ought to vote on that day. In the death of Charlie Hill Atlanta and Georgia lost one of the leading lawyers and first cit izens. The corner stone of Griffin’s government building was laid last week and Judge Bartlett deliver ed the address. We believe Capt. Smith wii win out on his “box of crackers and side of meat” plan to build the interurban railway. Under the new pension law a large number of veterans and widows of veterans will receive pensions from the state. The census figures shov the South is growing faster than any other section of the country. It is just coming into its own. Griffin, to the west of Jackson, will soon be hitched on to Jackson with electric current and then we will wake that town up. Butts county and Jackson are in a class by themselves. A lit tle more public spirit will make them the best in the South. The Progress is consecrated to the upbuilding of Jackson and Butts county. How many of the public spirited citizens can say as much? The saloons in Chattagooga have been ordered closed. This will be sad news to those accus tomed to get their inspiration in that city. If you are progressive and pub lic spirited you spell Jackson this way; if you are a pull-back you spell it this way, noskcaJ. Face about and get right. Savannah will be very much on the map during November with the grand prize races and the un veilining of the monument to Oglethorpe on hand. The enrollment and attendance at the Jackson Publie school is the largest in the memory of the town. Anew building will soon be a matter of necessity. The people have learned that Jackson has the best cotton mar ket in the state and they know Jackson is the leading shopping center of Middle Georgia. Asa case of retributive justice the man who throws fish heads in his back yard ought to have fever, and if he throws them in his neighbor’s yard he ought to be shot. No town ever grew permanent ly and in the rigtt way until the people unite in pulling for the higher and better things, better Schools, new' enterprises and im provements that mean progress. The question of a bond issue in Spalding couqty is a real live one. Really we can’t see why a progressive citizenry should op pose a bond issue when the good of the county is at stake.
