Jackson, Ga., Friday, March 15, 1911 Say a good word for the Boys' Corn Club. __ Now wouldn’t you like to sec Winter propose to Soring? Be sure you are registered, sc you can vote for the candidates of your choice. Savannah has decided that she will not have the Grand Prize Automobile races this year. Congressman W. C. Brantley, of the Eleventh district, will not be a candidate for re-election this yetr. Have you cleaned up your premises yet? Now is a good time to look after that impor tant matter. Now that Butts county has got ten the Corn Club movement un der way, how about a Poultry and Live Stock Association? Joe Hill Hall and Tom Hudson are already candidates for Gov ernor of Georgia, and it is ex pected Governor Slaton will get in the race within the next few days. While The Progress"is con vinced Judge Daniel would make n o-ood Governor, yet it feels there is work for him to do. for the present, as Judge of the Flint Circuit. Do nothing, say nothing, be nothing and you will not be no ticed. It is only the live ones that are talked about. Ever no tice that it is those who make good that are criticised? We are for any Democrat who can win this year; but all things being equal, we are for a South ern man for President. The Democratic South should assert itself and have a candidate of its own. If Jackson would have a get together meeting it would be a good thing. And after the peo ple get together, if they would stay together, pull together and work together, it would be better for the community. Every Confederate veteran should make a special effort to attend the reunion in Macon this year. This will be the last op portunity many of them will ever have of meeting their comrades again. Macon is so close to Butts county and the railroad fare is so low, surely all who desire to do so can attend the reunion. Before warm weather sets in, clean up your premises and keep down disease. This is a good time to attend to that work. Now we are having an example of “yellow journalism” right here in Atlanta. It will be lucky if the Grace case does not turn out to be a disgrace. The Valdosta and Thomasville military companies have been dis banded because it wasjimpossible to maintain the necessary enlist ment. The people of Jackson should be proud of their military company, the Jackson Rifles, and should lend all necessary encour agement to the boys who are putting their time and effort into making the command one of the best in the State. The town and county may never need military protection, but if they do, they should have it. No organization can live without the support and co-operation of the people ot the community. Encourage the mem oers of the Jackson Rifles. They are public-spirited and worthy of your support. V fll?
