JACKSON BUSINESS MEN ARE GIVING LIBERALLY TO CORN CLUB Full List of Premiums Will Soon Be Announced —Time Limit Is Extended to April 15th Prizes aggregating several hundred dollars will be offered to the winners of the prizes in the Butts County Bovs Corn club. A number of the prizes have al ready been subscribed, but there are several others who will as sist in this movement and the full list of donations will not be given until next week. By that time it is hoped to have the rules gov erning the club formulated. The Butts County Farmers Union which has been so active in getting the corn club idea started in this county, at the last meeting donated fifty dol lars to the Boys Corn Club. Had it not been for the interest and persistent effort of the Union it is likely the county would not have had a corn club this year. The corn club will be under the supervision of the County School Superintendent locally and will work in conjunction with the State Agricultural Col lege at Athens and the United States Department of Agricul ture at Washington. To assist Mr. Maddox in adopting a set of regulations for the corn club, a committee consisting of Hon. S. H. Mays, Hon. J. Matt McMich ael and J. D. Jones has been ap pointed. The “Old Men’s Corn Club’’ for which rules will also be made by this committee, working in conjunction with Mr. Maddox, it is likely will offer prizes in corn to the winners. It is thought the best plan to be adopted in this case will be for each mem ber of the club to give a bushel of corn, the winners in the three classes to be awarded the whole. A good many of the farmers of the county are members of the “Old Men’s Corn Club’’ and several others will join in the next few days. The time for joining the Boys Corn Club, which expired on the first of April, has been extended to April 15. There is still time for all who want to become mem bers. All boys between the ages of 10 and 18 are eligible to mem bership in the club. If you desire to become a mem ber of the club and compete for the prizes, which will be worth v while, send in your name before the 15 to County School Superin tendent C. S. Maddox at Jackson. NOTICE At a regular monthly meeting of the County Commissioner held *o n April Ist, 1912, the follow ing order was passed: It is ordered by the Court that the payment of those drawing an allowance from the county and stay ing at home be discontinu ed from this date, allowing each one of them the priv ilege of going to the Coun ty farm if they desire. BARTOW BARNES OF WORTHVILLE DIED SATURDAY The death of Mr. Bartow Barnes occurred at his home in Worthville Saturday night and followed an illness of some time. The age of the deceased, who was a member of a large family, was 52. Mr. Barnes is survived by five or six boys four or five girls and his widow, one brother, Mr. Frank Barnes; two sisters, Mrs. Griffin McMichael and Mrs. J. W. Yancey, and many other relatives. You Should Get Busy NOW. FLY TIME is drawing near and the sooner you begin the exter mination of these pests, the better. It has been proven that flies are carriers of dangerous disease germs, especially the bacilli of typhoid fever; and if every person in Jackson would unite in an effort to better sanitary conditions, we would see the result of such a campaign in a decrease of the pests this summer. Costs 10c and 25c. a bottle. SECOND:- Mix equal parts black pepper and sugar with twice the quantity of sweet cream and place in saucers about the room. This is very good, but not as effective as the in sect powder. THIRD:- Equal parts formaldehyde and sweetened water placed about a room in some open vessel will prove very effect ive, but is poisonous, and should be used with care. FOURTH:-Daisy Fly Killer, safe and efficient. 25c. FIFTH:- Poison Fly Paper. Place in water and is ready for use. Is not expensive and next to the Insect Powder is the best exterminator.
