OF INTEREST IN THE -SOCIAL REALM Play for Benefit of U. D. C. The local chapter U. D. C. are arranging for a play, ‘ ‘Kentucky Belle,” the date to be announced later. The play will be staged under the able direction of Mrs. R. N. Etheridge and Mrs. W. B. Thompson. Duncan-Davis. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Williams Duncan announce the engage ment of their daughter, Mary, and Mr. George W. Davis, of Athens, the wedding to take place in June at the home of the bride’s parents near Jackson. PERSONAL Mr. J. E. Pye was up from Flovilla Sunday. Mr. Frank Lawson is ill at his home in Flovilla. Mr. J. T. Harris has returned to Tologa, Florida. Reuben Thornton was a visitor in the city Sunday. Mr. W. M. Taylor spent Sun day in Barnesville. Mrs. A. F. White spent part of the week in Atlanta. Mr. E. W. Carroll spent part of the week in Athens. Mrs. L. R. Powell left Monday for her home in Newnan. Messrs J. W. and J. L. Fletcher were visitors here Monday. Mr. J. L. Bailey is able to be out after his recent illness. Mr. W. W. Preston was in town from Flovilla Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Wright spent Sunday in McDonough. Miss Mary Sims Eakes has re turned to her home in Augusta. Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Jones spent Sunday with relatives at Stark. Mr. J. R. Miller and Miss Myra Miller were visitors here Monday. Mr. J. H. McKibben made a business trip to Atlanta Monday. Mr. G. W. Hausler was among the visitors in the city yesterday. Judge T. G. Preston, of Flo villa, was in the city Wednesday. Mr. J. B. Carmichael made a business trip to Atlanta Wednes day.' Mr. E. J. McMichael has been spending several days at Indian Spring. Miss Nelle Hendrick is at home from a delightful visit in Macon. Messrs. H. L. Gray and C. A. Pittman were visitors to the city Monday.! Mrs. 0. A. Pound and Mrs. Martha Graves visited in Atlanta Tuesday. Mrs. 0. B. Willis continues quite sick, to the regret of her many friends. Miss Viola Slaughter will visit in Atlanta next week and attend grand opera. . M rs . J. R. Fambro and chil dren, of Barnesville, are guests of Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Taylor. Mrs. Lonnie Penn, of Monti cello, is the guest of Mrs. N. R. McCord and Miss Abbie McCord. Mrs. Bessie Bryans, Miss Jen nie Bryans and Mrs. Keaton were up from Indian Spring Tuesday. Hon. J. D. Price, of Farming ton, was a recent prominent vis itor to Jackson. Messrs R. E. Evans and B. R. McLendon were among the visi tors here Tuesday. Mr. J. C. Landers’ friends will be glad to know that he is again with the Southern. Messrs Vernon and Leland Smith were over from Monticel lo several days ago. Mr. Earl Calverts’ friends here will regret to hear of his death in Atlanta Tuesday. Rev. and Mrs. George Nichols, of Macon, were guests Sunday of Mr. and Mrs. S. P. Nichols. Misses Anna and Olive Rambo, of Bluffton, are expected soon as the guests of Mrs. W. E. Wat kins. Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Carmichael and Atlee spent the week-end in Jonesboro with Mrs. I. W. Gil bert. Cols. W. E. Watkins, C. L. Redman, J. T. Moore and 0. M. Duke attended court in McDon ough Monday. Mr. J. H. Carmichael attended the meeting of Group Five of the Georgia Bankers Association in Dublin Monday. Mrs. J. T. Warthen and attrac tive children, James and Meade Hendrick, of Macon, are guests of Mrs. Ida Hendrick. Mrs. B. F. Moon and Mr Van Fret well enjoyed Sunday in Lo cust Grove with Mrs. Moon’s mother, Mrs. M. J. Wilson. Col. J. J. Willingham, of Dou glas, and Mr. G. F. Harley, of Columbus, were welcome visitors to the city Saturday and Sunday. The music pupils of Miss Viola Slaughter will give an interest ing recital about the middle of May, when her spring term will close. Mr. H. J. Miler, manager of the Jackson Coca Cola Bottling Com pany, has been confined to his room on account of illness this week. Mrs. J. C. Kinard was taken to Atlanta for treatment on last Friday morning and the latest reports are that she is doing nicely. Dr. A. F. White represented the Butts County Medical Society at the meeting of the Georgia Medical Association in Augusta this week. Mr. A. H. Carmichael is at home after a trip through Ala bama and southwest Georgia in the interest of the Carmichael Buggy Company. Professor Wm. E. Reynolds, of Milledgeville, Memorial Day orator, will be entertained by Mr. and Mrs. R. N. Etheridge during his stay in the city. Mr. and Mrs. Emmet Walthall returned Sunday to their home in Atlanta, after a visit to their parents. Mr. and Mrs. F. L. Wal thall They were accompanied home by little Miss Dorothy Pope.' BUTTS COUNTY PROGRESS. Mr. and Mrs. J. H. McKibben, Mr. and Mrs. S. P. Nichols and Mr. L. P. McKibben motored over to Eatonton a few days ago to visit Mr. and Mrs. T. H. Mc- Kibben. Asa delegate from the Men and Religion Forward Movement of Jackson, Dr. R. VanDeventer left Wednesday to attend the Conservation Congress in New York city. Miss Margaret Welch has re turned to Atlanta. Miss Clio Carmichael will go up early in May to attend the numerous so cial functions which will be ten dered Miss Welch before her mar riage to Mr. W. 0. Ham on the evening of the fifth of June. Since the pretty spring weath er has come picnics have been the order of the day. Last Sat urday Mrs. Walter Jones and Miss Lucy Goodman chaperoned a number of Miss Goodman’s pu pils on an enjoyable picnic and tomorrow Mrs. Willis Morrison and Miss Viola Slaughter will take a merry party for a day’s outing. SCHOOL NEWS BY EMMALU NOLEN. Prof. Lanier was absent from school Monday and Tuesday on account ol sickness. Miss Lanier is quite busy drill ing her music pupils for the con cert commencement week. They are preparing several choruses, besides the instrumental pieces. Everybody is enjoying the love ly days now, but are glad they have only four more weeks of study this term. The eleventh class have finish ed their “English Literature.” They enjoyed studying with Miss Hearn, teacher. They are now studying “The Merchant of Ven ice.” In the absence of an expression teacher, Miss Hearn has quite a flourishing class, besides her reg ular work as English teacher in the school. The library, with Miss Annie C. Crum as librarian, is being enjoy ed very much by the little folks. It has been several years since we have received any new books. Miss Goodman gave her pupils a flower hunt last week. Miss Cornwall has been drilling the tenth class in reading poetry, in which she finds them very de ficient. JACKSON BAPTIST CHURCH. Sparkman, of Carroll ton, was in the city Monday look ing for a location for a moving picture show which it is propos ed to put in here. With Mr. Sparkman is associated Mr. F. M. Rast, both of whom state they are connected with the A. & M. school at Carrollton. It Is thought a good moving picture show would pay well in Jackson and the enterprise will be welcomed to the city.
