FIRE DEPARTMENT GUTS OFF SEVERAL MEMBERS At the regular monthly meet ing of the Jackson Fire Depart ment, held Friday night, four or five names were stricken from the roll of membership for non attpndance. According to the bv-laws of the department a member cannot miss more than two meetings in succession, It was stated at the meeting Fri day night that this rule would be rigidly enforced in the future. Those favoring the rule said the department did not propose to let anybody become a member of the company just to keep from paying street tax, and nev er attend any of the meetings. For the present department meets once a month, on the sec ond Friday night in each month, at 7:15 o’clock in the City Hall. A number of important business matters will come up at the next meeting and a full attendance is expected. The city has recently gone to considerable expense in buying new equipment for the compa ny and if the members will pull together for a few months Jack will have one of the best volun teer fire companies in the State. City Tax Collector Wilson has secured the names of those dropped from the organization and they will now be called upon for street tax. COOPER DIED SUD DENLY ON LAST SUNDAY After finishing his sermon at Liberty church Sunday, Rev. J. T. Cooper, of Monroe county, was seized with a sudden illness and died in the pulpit. It is thought death was due to heart disease. Mr. Cooper was a native of Butts county, the son of a minis ter. He filled charges at Rock Creek and other churches and was preaching for Rev. T. H. Vaughn at the time he was strick en. Rev. Mr. Cooper, who was 54 years of age, was a staunch citi zen and was a candidate for tax receiver of Monroe county. Mr. Cooper is survived by hi wife* three sons and a daughter. The funeral was held at Rock Creek church in Monroe county Monday afternoon at 3 o’clock. LOST In Jackson a Knights Templar watch charm. WILL HAVE POWES IN 2 WEEKS SAY OFFICIALS It is reliably reported that the city of Jackson will have current from the Central Georgia Power Company in about two weeks. Officials of the power company state they will be ready by that time and the city has completed the installation of the necessary new machinery, with some slight exceptions. .
