Slaton and Hall —that’s all. Cut those weeds and clean up. Pull for Butts county or pull out. Everybody’s doing it now talking sewerage. Jackson has a nice crop of fine and luxuriant weeds. They need cutting. The legislature is doing busi ness at the same old stand, in the same old way. This is the season when pic nickers pick persistently perni cious red bugs. Jackson—the power city—isthe dynamic force that is waking up Middle Georgia. Griffin gets the next meeting of the Georgia Funeral Directors. A dead one—eh? Brvan went to Chicago as a re porter. Trust he is a better quill pusher than he is a lecturer. Judge Horace Holden has an nounced for congress in the tenth district against Tom Hardwick. Butts county has about one hundred and eighty-five rural telephones. This is a fine show ing. With a campaign for congress and solicitor general, the people of this section are assured of a good bit of politics this summer. An exchange notes that too many doctors and lawyers and too few educated farmers are be ing turned out by the colleges. The mail carriers in Butts coun ty are using motorcycles and au tomobiles will soon be pressed into service. Good roads will work wonders. Butts county has got the small farm idea, the good roads fever, the rural telephone craze and is going steadily forward, as the increase in tax returns this year will show. The Flint circuit is composed of seven counties, Butts, Fay ette, Henry, Monroe, Pike Spald ing, Upson. Jackson is the only town in the circuit that has two newspapers. The Macon Telegraph and the Atlanta Journal are having no little fun now, each trying to set the other’s record right. The weather is entirely too hot for such a waste of energy. Thomson and Washington to gether have raised over one hun dred thousand dollars for the Brinson railroad, being built from Savannah to Chattanooga. Those people know the importance of railroads. What are you doing to help the members of the Boys Corn club? Butts county is not rais ing as much corn as she ought to, and the corn club movement will help to increase both the acreage and the yield. , Joe Hill Hall’s headquarters are in Macon. Every candidate for governor since the late J. H. Estell, of Savannah, has had. his headquarters in Atlanta. Mr. Hall is evidently one who believes Atlanta is not Georgia. There is always a ready mar ket right here at home for all the produce that can be raised. Fresh eggs and butter, home-raised meat and vegetables bring a sub stantial premium. Why don’t more of our people turn their at tention to these industries? “Little Joe” Brown, L. L. D. The University of Georgia honor ed itself in honoring this sturdy little patriot. His father, the late Governor Joseph E. Brown, gave to the Unversity a fund of $50,000 for educating poor boys, and thousands of worthy and de serving boys have been helped to obtain a college education. Why The Editor Gets Rich. The editor publishes another long winded, flowery article and tells a dozen lies about “the pretty and accomplished bride.’’ The minister gets slo and a piece of cake. The editor gets SOOO and a request to carry the groom’s subscription account an other year. In the course of time she dies. The doctor gets from $5 to SIOO, the minister gets another $5, and the undertaker gets from $5 to SIOO, the editor publishes a notice of death and obituary two columns long, lodge resolutions, a lot of poetry, and a card of thanks and gets SO,OOO. No wonder so many country edi tors get rich!
