The big State Fair is on in Ma con. Teddy Roosenfelt will run a poor third. Wilson will knock a home run on November 5. Augusta will never amount to much till she curbs the strike spirit. There is a silver lining to ev ery cloud. But one more election this year. Woodrow, William. Teddy will be the order of the finish. Watch the lineup. Nothing is as catching as opti mism. Try it in vour business. Brace up and smile. Atlanta has about as many hyp ocrites to the square inch as can be found anywhere on the globe. Boost your business if you want it to grow. You will never ex pand by wearing a grouch. Ad vertise. The people of this country will never see any more cheap living until they raise their own supplies at home. In nineteen days the ballots will fall and the first Democratic president in twenty years will be elected by the people. There are newspapers, wrap ping papers and almanacs. The Progress is a newspaper, print ing all the news all the time. Teddy believes in and practices social equality with the negro. He ought to get mighty few votes in Georgia and the South. Train robberies are becoming common, while banks are being cracked with monotonous regu larity. High cost of living or short cotton crop? Atlanta is satisfied to rid her self of evil regardless of how much it hurts small towns and unprotected places. A noble, Christian spirit in Atlanta. Several thousand newspapers and some odd millions of people preach living at home as the only salvation of the farmers of the South. The farmers agree with you perfectly. They say it is the right thing to do. Yet how few of them follow this advice. It ought to be easy to make the corn club movement go in Butts county after this year. Corn production has been increas ed substantially in this county. The government is now stick ing its nose into the private bus iness of newspapers. There are but precious few things in this day and time that the govern ment is not trying to run or reg ulate. Muzzle the press and there would be mighty little free dom left in America. There never was a time when public spirit was needed in Jack son more than at the present. The citizens ought to get busy and secure several new enterpris es to utilize the cheap electric power. Jackson and Butts coun ty have unparalled opportunities before them. Let’s get some thing started. NI6HT BLOOMING CEREUS WITH JUST 27 BLOOMS Mrs. A. B. Harp, Jackson’s popular and efficient post master, who has a love for flowers, her collection being noted through out this section, has a night blooming cereus which had twen ty-seven olooms Sunday night. The spectacle was one rarely ever seen, and those who saw the flower in bloom declare it was one of the most beautiful things they ever saw. Once before this year this same plant had 18 blooms all open at the same time. Mrs. Harp has a photograph of the cereus in bloom and it may be seen at the post office. BASEBALL OVERSHADOWS POLITICS IN NEW YORK Mr. F. S. Etheridge, the prom inent local banker who has just returned from a trip to New York and the East, says baseball over shadowed in the metropo lis during his visit. The champ ionship series between Boston and New York was being played while he was in North. Mr. Etheridge states that Wil son is strong in the sections he visited and that his eleetion is confidently looked forward to. Mr. Etheridge was accompa nied by Mrs. Etheridge. FIRST LYCEUM ATTRACTION DREW GOOD ATTENDANCE The first number of the 1912-13 lyceum course, the Edwin R. Weeks Company, which appear ed at the auditorium last Friday night, drew a good house. The entertainment was favorably re ceived by those who attended, the program being varied, inclu ding music, songs, readings, and a batch of humorous stuff. Prof. W. P.
