Miss Lois Walker, of Locust Grove, has accepted a position in Jenkinsburg High School. The friends of Mrs. I. P. Mid j dlebrooks will be glad to know of her convalescence. Messrs. Austin Asbury, How ard Jolly and Arlie Woodward, of Atlanta, spent Sunday in Jen kinsburg. Mrs. J. L. Elder, of Macon, is visiting her daughter, Mrs. E. A. Cawthon. The Sunbeam Society will meet at Mrs. C. L. Carter’s Saturday afternoon at three-thirty. Mrs. Hartsfield, and children of Atlanta, have been visiting Mrs. Tom Merritt. Mrs. Joe Middlebrooks enter tained at a lovely course dinner, the following guests: Mr. and Mrs. Bryant Thompson, Misses Sallie Mae Ball, Minnie Brown ing, Florence and Felicia Mor rison, Messrs. Boyd McMichael and M. A. Sandifer. Mr. and Mrs. Homer Manning are visiting relatives in Jenkins burg. The Baptist church here has called Rev. Mr. Walker, of Lo cust Grove, as their pastor. He preached here Saturday and Sun day to a large congregation. Miss Minnie Browning is visit ing her sister, Mrs. Joe Middle brooks, for a few days. Prof. Z. E. Barron made a business trip to Jackson Satur day afternoon. Mr. George Walker spent sev eral days last week with his grandfather, Mr. George Ray. Mr. J. H. PLOW HANDLES BAKES YAMS AND WRITES OF GRIME WAVE On this rainy January night as I sit by a good, log fire and have just roasted several big yam po tatoes and as I pick up a fine yel low yam and blow the ashes off, I begin to. ruminate and this ques tion comes up, What is to become of our home of the brave and land of the free? Men in high places are being indicted and put in prison for all sorts of crimes. It seems there is a wave of crime sweeping the whole county with a surging torrent. It seems that there is graft and scandal grow ing out of every investigation that is being made by congress of the doings of all the big cor porations. There is at least one thousand corporations in this country that are now r in the courts for their violations of the law. Why can’t we all be willing to give every one a square deal? All this morbid desire to get big rich at the hurt and expense of the other fellow ain’t worth a pinch of snuff. And all this get rich quick business regardless of who it hurts has reached its lim it and those who have indulged in it are now paying the penalty. There is today more real pleas ure to the farmer who has plenty of good live stock and plenty to feed them and himself on, and lay down at night and hear the rain patter on the roof than the millionaire who has obtained his wealth by questionale means and slipping around over the country to keep from telling a committee how he got his money. Now in conclusion let me say this to the farmer; Plant plenty of corn this year. Plant some cotton but not too much for we all have tried it to our hurt. Plow Handles.
