Georgia produced less than a thousand cars of peachesthis year. Monticello is planning to have a Colt Show. Why not Jackson? At last accounts the country school teachers were still unpaid. If your business is hid under a bushel wake it up through an ad. At any rate indications point to plenty of hog and hominy in Butts county this fall. This is the season of picnics, reunions and watermelons. Sure ly life is worth living up here in God’s country. The general assembly is so busy creating new counties that Macon may not get the capital this year though she is still hopeful. Why not send in the news of j your community each week? Cotton is being sold in Texas, and thp staple is opening in South Georgia. In a few weeks there will be cotton open in this section. The Georgia Weekly Press As sociation met in LaGrange this week and the editors and their families are having their outing at St. Simons and Brunswick. Tax equalization is by far the most important question before the legislature, and it is hoped that there will be some needed legislation along that line yet. Georgia ought to feel proud of her corn club boys. They are revolutionizing agriculture and raising 100 bushels to the acre where their fathers raised but 10. John T. Boifeullet, secretary to Senator Bacon, is among those mentioned for congress from the Sixth district next year. Hon. J. Walter Wise and Col. J. R. Cooper have already said they would be in the running. There is a persistent rumor that Judge R. T. Daniel will throw his hat into the congressional ring and Congressman Bartlett hasn’t been heard from as yet. Altogether the race in the old Sixth district promises to be a hot one in 1914. The citizens of good old Butts should certainly support and en courage a Livestock Association. 1 The conviction continues to grow that Jackson has one of the best schools in the entire state. If you are looking for a city of good churches and schools move to Jackson. She welcomes you. TALLULAH FALLS REMAINS BEAUTIFUL DESPITE DAM Atlanta, Ga. July 24-Persons who have heard false rumors to the effect that the beauty of Tal lulah Falls has been ruined, will possibly be amazed to learn that the wonderful North George gorge has attracted more sight seers, tourists, picknickers and excursionists this season than ev er before, and that Atlantians who have gone there for their vacation declare that the spot is if anything more ideal than be fore the immense dam was built. The dam, they say, has rot spoiled the beauty of the gorge, and has added all the attractions of a mountain lake to the scenery. The building of the immense power plant there, it is stated, has enhanced rather than detrac ted from the interest of the spot, both for Georgians and for tour ists from other parts of the coun try. MAMMOTH EACLE KILLED IN NORTH GEORGIA MOUNTAINS Atlanta, Ga. July 24—TheGeor-j gia eagle which killed a pig, j fought two bull dogs to a stand still and then attacked a woman with its beak and claws, is shown by records kept at the museum of the capitol to be the largest bird of prey ever slain in Georgia provided the measurements were correct. It was stated by the man who killed the bird with a shotgun, G. W. Hall, that the eagle meas ured seven feet from tip to tip.
