Vaughn for Tax Receiver in this issue, Mr. Vaughn stated several weeks ago that he would be a candidate before the people this year, and formally announces himself this week. No man in the county is held in higher esteem than Mr. Vaughn. He is regarded as an honest, upright man, and enjoys the good will and friendship of all who know him. In the race two years ago he ran second in a field of eight candidates. This was such a splendid showing that his friends feel confident he will muster enough votes to win out this year. Mr. Land is a well known citizen and has been a resident of Butts county for about thirty-five years. A few years ago he represented the county in the lower house of the general assembly. We are going to endeavor to conduct our cam paign without doing or saying any thing that would cause bitterness be tween friends or affect the good name of Butts county, and will carry out this policy so far as we are concerned until the last ballot is cast. If our victory depends upon mud slinging, misrepresentation, personal abuse and ridicule of our opponents whom we respect as being as good cit izens as we try to be, then we will go down in defeat with a clear conscience of having intentionally wronged no man.
