ELECTION ORDER Election For Local Tax For Public Schools. Pursuant to a petition signed by one fourth of the qualified voters of Butts county, for the purpose of supplement ing the public school fund received from the state for public schools, it is ordered that an election be held for a county system, with the exception of Jackson Public School, on April 17th, 1914, Said election to be held as ordi nary county elections are held at each voting precint in said county. Those favoring the levying of the local tax shall vote “For Local Tax For Public Schools.” Those opposed shall vote ‘ ‘Against Local Ta x For Public Schools” The election returns to be made to the Ordinary of said Butts county. MEDAL Announcement has just been made public that Miss Fredna Allen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F. M. Allen and a member of this years graduating class in the Jackson public schools, has been awarded the medal offered by the U. D. C. for the best essay. The subject was “Famous Bat tles in Georgia in the War Be tween the States.” It is given out that Miss Allen won the hon or easily, her paper having taken high rank both in subject matter and diction. Miss Allen also won the medal offered last year. She is one of the brightest members of her class and has always taken high rank in school activities. That she has been awarded this medal is a matter of interest to a large circle of friends who will extend heartiest congratulations. MR. CHARLES A. SMITH ICOMES OUT OF CAMPAIGN Mr. C. A. Park as their repre sentative to give a talk to our school on the Prevention of Con tagious Diseases. Great interest is being taken in the public debate to be held on April 10. The monthly normal meeting met at Mr. and Mrs. W. P. Mar tins’ Tuesday afternoon and af ter an hour of interesting dis cussion of the lesson, a social half hour was enjoyed.
