Merritt took its flight to join the angels in that beautiful home above. She was a noble Christian woman and was loved by every one who knew her. It was hard to give her up but God knew best. All was done for her that lov ing hands could do, but God said: “It is enough, come up higher.” He thought it best to take her from this world to a better home where parting is no more. The deceased leaves a husband, four brothers and a host of friends and relatives to mourn her loss. The entire family have the sympathy of many friends during their sad hours of bereave ment. The funeral services were con ducted by one of her former pas tors, Rev. T. H. Vaughn, of near Forsyth. Her body was laid to rest Friday afternoon at four o’clock in the cemetery at Jen kinsburg Methodist church. Misses Inez Brinkley and Belle Pitts spent the week-end in At lanta. Miss Florence Morrison spent the week-end in Jackson with relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Z. E. Barron and Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Mills motored to Jackson Saturday afternoon. Mrs. Carrie Smith has as her guest for several days, her moth er, Mrs. Dupree, of Locust Grove. Mr. and Mrs. Sam Thurston left last week for a two month’s visit with their son, Mr. Levi Thurston, in Ardmore, Oklahoma. We miss them very much and wish for them a pleasant trip. Another sad death occurred in our community last week. Mrs. Tom Kim bell was called to her celestial home, where there will be no more sad partings. She was buried at County Linechurch. Many friends extend sympathy to the relatives in their sadness. Mr. Malvin Barnes, of Flovilla, visited his sister, Miss Annice Barnes, Saturday. Among those called to the death-bed of Mrs. Ed Merritt were Mr. and Mrs. Jim Childs, of Atlanta, Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Childs and family. Mr. and Mrs. Doc Childs of near Forsyth and Mr. James Childs, of Locust Grove. Mr. and Mrs. Will Mer ritt, of Jackson. Mrs. W. J. Bankston spent Saturday in Jackson sdopping. April 21. —The Baptist revival meeting which has been in progress at the county court house for the past three weeks, conducted by evangelist John W. Ham. closed Sunday night. The meeting was a great success, a large number having been converted and connected themselves with the various churches of the town. A special feature of the meeting was the music made by the choir of near ly two hundred voices directed by Prof. A. A. Lyon, of Atlanta, Ga., who was at one time musical director! of Dr. Broughton’s church in Atlanta. Sunday afternoon Mr. Ham ad dressed the largest crowd ever assembled in the court house on the liquor traffic. He read the names of all who hold retail li quor dealers’ license in Catawba county and those who exceeded the limit of the law in buying. The policy of the Secretary of the Navy, Josephus Daniels, in abolishing liquor from the U. S. navy, warmly commended by the following resolution passed by a rising vote: ‘ ‘Resolved 1. That we do heart ily endorse the action of the Se cretary of the Navy, Hon. Jose phus Daniels, in abolishing liquor from the navy of the United States of America. ‘ ‘2. That we commend this ac tion to the government of the world as an[example well worthy to follow. “3. That instead of being a step ahead of the times it is, on the contrary, in line with the test of efficiency that is being applied to the moral, mental and physical manhood of the enlight ened sections of the globe today, and said action of the Secretary of the Navy is endorsed by science, education and industry. “4.
